To help get even circulation, I thought I’d try using two. Bad idea?

Thank you for your picture post to r/sousvide. We want to remind everyone of Rule #5. Posts should be accompanied by something to foster discussion. A comment, a question, etc is encouraged.

If you’ve posted a picture of something you’ve prepared, please explain why in a comment so people can have some sort of conversation. Simply dropping a picture of food in the sub isn’t really fostering any discussion which is what we’re all aiming for.

Posts that are a picture with no discussion can and will be removed by the mods.

    Thank you!!

For a circular sous vide in a vacuum, this method might be optimal.

  3. It literally won’t matter. Only one will be heating, and one is plenty of water circulation.

  4. mikechorney

One is enough. It won’t make it better.

I thought you had both of them heating, I was going to say I tried this once and I tripped a breaker.

You could double the size of the tank and 1 would still be fine

  7. seveseven

It’s fine but not important. You would be better off using a cooler instead of a prep tub.

I do this every year. Mine struggles to keep up the temp on the larger container I use. 2 helps it regulate much easier.

  9. My Anova tub I got from Costco with the unit itself seems about the same size and never an issue

  10. Now I’ve heard a sous vide will tenderize a shoe, but I never thought of ping pong balls. Do they come out like marshmallows?

  11. seanabenoit

I’d say your issue is heat containment if you’re using 2. Use an ice chest instead of a bin.

Sous vide combat! there can be only one!

You’re going to trip your circuit breaker. Those each draw probably about 1500 watts, and two of them in the same outlet will overload the normal amperage of the circuit. You’re looking at a 25 amp draw, and may also start a fire if the breaker is faulty.

I converted an ice chest, it only drops 10-20 degrees in 24 hours even after taking the circulator out, so is way more stable than the tanks you buy, if your too worried about keeping the right temp id try that

  15. I’d encourage you to take a thermometer and find out. I’d be surprised if one side to the other was more than half a degrree already, though it’s easy enough to measure one way then the other.

    🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I’m into it. Shouldn’t hurt anything

This just uses more electricity for the same result.

  18. Helpful-nothelpful

I’ve never seen two SV machines play ping pong.

  19. karluvmost

I wish I had 2 when mine died while doing a brisket. 2 is a great idea on a longer cook

Respectfully, this is the silliest thing I’ve ever seen on this sun

  21. Accomplished-Iron778

I’m curious what happens if both are set at different temps. Will it enter an infinite loop and never reach the desired temp?

  22. feverish

I did this today to get the water up to temp and unthaw meat slightly faster. Once it is up to temp, one is enough.

  23. its only gonna help to bring the temp up faster and maybe trip your houses circuit breaker.

  24. southernwayfarer

Ping pong balls are a reasonable way to limit surface evaporation and cooling. You’re using too many. All you need is enough to cover the surface as a single layer. Also probably unnecessary to have two units might get the bath to temp quicker but planning for a longer warm up would be fine.
