Went to Egypt, only souvenir I brought back was 16lbs of spices (and some tea)
I figured if anyone was going to appreciate my indulgence/impulse shopping, they might be here. Cumin, doukka, turmeric, mint, various chilies, and a few teas. Thank god my checked luggage was only half packed 😅

Nice! I go abroad often and bring back difficult to find stuff. The secret to smuggling is lying.

I would love to go the Egypt!! Alas, I am a broke western woman. Even if I wasn’t broke, I’d probably still be a woman, and thus, cannot go 😭

I’d be wary of the spices having lead in them, especially tumeric and any mixed spices

I visited a really amazing spice shop in aswan and I wish we had them in the states much frequently. The smell alone is worth it

That was probably a little illegal (customs violation) but oh well – congrats!

When I traveled to India last year I also brought home a few pounds of spices. It was the best decision and the gift that keeps on giving.

Something like dukkah makes sense to bring home, but that’s probably a whole lot of adulterants in your suitcase. At least they are authentic adulterants.

LOL I did the same thing when I was there! I was so excited!

Same for me when I travel, only bring home herbs/spices, the harder to find, the better.

Arab countries by far have the best coffee and tea. Same with tobacco. Because they don’t drink booze so they go out late and get coffee
strongbitchwithadhd
Now that’s my kind of souvenir!

Love their black tea with mint! Make a great iced tea too

I showed my Fiance and her response was “You’d do that.”
No hesitation, no second thoughts.
So you know I’m on board!

I had some family bring back spices from Egypt last year. One was curry which i didn’t care for, a really good chicken blend and a pound of tri color peppercorns which were amazing. Best souvenir

When we travelled to Nicaragua we visited some local family sugar processors, and my friends bought a suitcase full of natural processed sugar bricks.
He had a nice talk with the customs guys at the US border about his suitcase full of Central American waxy brown bricks wrapped in wax paper. They xrayed and tested the hell out of that stuff.

Whenever i went to tanzania, my suitcases were full of spices from zanzibar and coffee from kilimandjaro
Never had a customs problem – tanzanians were happy when they checked because i bought gifts in their country and in germany no one cared as it was not for business and all dried and not fresh produce and labeled.

My favorite thing I brought back from peru was a bag of spiced cocoa powder (amazing). Got searched by customs for two hours about it, so like, just plan connecting flights in ahead.

Did they have Melange? Or is that only available on Arrakis?
