LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — People in need made their way to the Salvation Army dining room for a Thanksgiving meal.
Executive Chef Jeremy Wood, who has experienced homelessness himself, led a team of 30 volunteers to prepare meals for 300 to 500 people.
“For a lot of people out there that are away from family, maybe haven’t seen family for a long time, we’re going to try and make ourselves family today,” Wood said.
Unlike the usual routine, guests were seated and served by volunteers, avoiding the typical wait in line.
Wood says they began preparing for the event a couple of days ago.
The Salvation Army provides daily meals, but this special service is designed to offer a sense of family and dignity.
With recent increases in demand due to economic challenges, Wood says he’s seen a lot of new faces come to their organization in the past couple of months.

“You drive through these areas, and sometimes it’s lost on us that these are people’s brothers, their fathers, their mothers, their daughters, these are family members that may be just lost,” Wood said.
