A new YouGov survey suggests that traditional turkey is no longer the nation’s favourite part of Christmas dinner, with supporting side dishes now becoming more popular.
The poll released yesterday (27 November) and commissioned by artisan pasta brand Pasta Evangelists, which has a site in the Richmond borough, reveals that pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and stuffing are now regarded as the most essential elements of the festive meal.
The findings show:
Pigs in blankets are the UK’s preferred meaty item, winning 62% of votes55% of those who favour them believe Christmas plates should include even more58% say Yorkshire puddings do belong on a Christmas dinnerBrussels sprouts remain popular, with 52% including them
Younger adults under 45 are beginning to add non-traditional sides such as chips, rice and mac & cheese (24%)
Pasta Evangelists commissioned the research ahead of launching a new seasonal dish: Pigs in Blankets Ravioli, combining the classic British Christmas favourite with Italian pasta.

Roberta D’Elia, Head Chef at Pasta Evangelists, said: “It’s Christmas and we’re pushing the boundaries in the best way possible.
“For the UK there’s nothing quite as festive as pigs in blankets, so why not make it that bit more delightful and combine with pasta too?
“This dish is a celebration of British-Italian culture, all with delicious, nourishing food at the centre for some festive joy.”
The full survey was conducted by YouGov among UK adults who celebrate Christmas.
