I asked her not to add the flowers and mushrooms and writing for £20 off £97 to £77 and she removed the vines too which was the part i really wanted, then she added these daisies that i didn’t ask for or was anywhere on the inspo pic, i don’t even like daisies.
I was just going to add my own decorations instead. It’s only a 2 layered cake too with raspberry jam and vanilla icing
I asked her to add the vines in and she said it would look bad with the vines but it’s my cake.
Now you can tell she is annoyed but now I’m sad since i spent half my paycheck on a cake that im not happy with and too nice to argue for🙁

I can see why you’re sad. I don’t understand her adding flowers when you asked her to *remove* flowers. “Remove flowers, mushrooms and writing” seems to be relatively simple and precise specifications. She could always have texted/emailed you a copy of the cake a day before pickup to see if you approved, or contacted you for approval for any “artistic embellishments” she’d have wanted to add. I’m sorry this happened to you. For us, the cake ties together the theme of our parties and is the highlight of the gathering. I’ve had the last 3 cakes ruined by three different bakers doing the exact same thing.
You may be able to pop the cake into the freezer for a half hour and remove the daisies without too much trouble. I do hope she’ll fix it, provide a refund or that you’re able to make a few decorative additions of your own. x
I agree with others: It’s a pretty cute cake. I can see you’re disappointed because the flowers are a lot if you didn’t want them.
Do what you’re paid to do!
Period
Customers should get what they asked for, but to me, it looks really nice.
If she’s just ignoring you, that’s not right.
I feel like that’s a sign to learn baking and/or decorating:( I’m also very much unable to argue with people that do artistic work, and it *always* comes out wrong if I try to commission stuff. I’d say next time either bake the cake from scratch or order the cake undecorated / with minimal frosting and do the rest yourself. I’m sorry it happened to you!
Those daisies aren’t in the pic? They’re completely different and you asked for no flowers! Why would she do that? That’s ridiculous I am so sorry.
She basically made whatever she wanted and has the gall to argue with you, like you don’t get to make those choices for the customer.
If she knew that you were going to add decorations yourself then the vines make sense. But from her perspective, it probably would look bad because there is no context to indicate that it’s vines and not just crappy looking piping. I think she probably wanted to avoid the risk of getting punished for giving a customer what they wanted and then not liking it and refusing to pay or giving bad reviews.
If you’re a professional who creates things to your clients taste, you have to know how to advise and guide them. She definitely should have talked about adding the flowers because she probably did it to avoid the cake looking too plain. But at that point she is designing a cake for what she thinks you will want, not what you asked for. And if she was worried about the design you asked for , she should talk about those concerns of why she thinks it won’t look how you’re picturing.
Pretty unprofessional to ignore basic instructions on an expensive cake. But without reading the post, I thought the cake looked awesome and was the reference photo – but I am hungry.
i don’t want to blame you for others not listening. but i think it’s confusing to be shown an inspiration where MOST of the elements you don’t want. the inspo cake is actually not very close to what you wanted, considering it needed a lot of edits.
In defense of the decorator, removing those key elements from the fairly simple decorated cake, was going to give you a very plain looking cake, in a weird green shade (without the foliage it’s just a weird moss green design)
HOWEVER… The butterflies are missing? I could see why she’d add the daisies because of the plain feel of the cake without those little accents, but if she did the butterflies it wouldn’t have needed the unexpected daisies…
As a decorator, I have to say it’s just as much on her as it is you for not being a little more concise about what your final product was going to look like to you, but the decorator absolutely should have asked more questions and for more examples before they went on to add a very specific non request decoration all over the cake, and to not answer, that’s bad business.
I think it’s reasonable to ask for a touch up on the design from the decorator, if you did pay that much, absolutely try to get in touch and pester them till they answer, either partial refund or please fix this cake.
No you need to argue because that cake looks nothing like the inspo or what you asked for. She just got lazy because she knows she can’t do the actual design, and rather than tell you that, she thought it would be okay to take your money and gaslight you.
I’d be annoyed too. Second, learn to be kind, but not nice. The former allows you to help take care of others and yourself, the latter turns you into everyone’s personal doormat.
It looks nice, but it’s clearly HER aesthetic, not yours and not what you asked for. I’m sorry.
But happy birthday from a stranger
The piping is very different from the inspo picture as well. I’m going to guess it was a skill issue on the bakers part. She should have given you a further discount if she can’t give you the work you paid for but you’d still need the cake.
It is beautiful, but if it is not what you asked for, you have a right to be perturbed.
I dunno, I know it’s been popular here recently to share these “I didn’t get what i was promised” kind of posts…. But this looks pretty damn close to me. Sorry, but I’m not on your side for this one OP 😅
If someone asked me for a cake with nothing but vines on it, I would ask them to clarify. If I was still unclear, but willing to do the work, I would take a photo of the plain green cake, with piping and vines and send for approval. I’m so sorry OP. I hope it still tastes delicious
There wouldn’t be any money transferred over to them if that was my cake. Don’t pay for something you didn’t ask for.
I’m sorry you didn’t get what you wanted. I do think it’s very pretty though!
> half your paycheck
You only earn £150 a month?
Second, that first image is AI generated slop. The real thing might not be what you asked for, but it is real at least.
First cake is 10x prettier. Would have been best with no mods
If you didn’t tell her you were planning to add your own decorations, she probably added the daisies as a free bonus to raise the cake’s appearance to something she was satisfied with having her name on.
If you explain to her that you want to make your own decorations and would like the daisies removed, she’d probably be happy to do that.
Just tell her you planned on decorating it yourself so she understands that you really do want a blank slate with vines.
‘womp womp im too nice to complain’ grow a backbone dude
I mean, the flowers look like they’d come off pretty easy so as long as she didn’t charge extra for it then it’s not a big deal. Other than that it’s a nice looking cake.
You said you intended to add your own decorations, so take off the daisies and go ahead and add your own! I think the base cake looks professional (even if the piping is a BIT heavier), so let it go and do your own thing! Life is too short to let the AHs get you down. People will be loving the way the cake looks after you add your own decorations. They will be high on wine (?) and the happy occasion and life will be good.
that sucks, i’m sorry. i definitely see why you’re upset. i wonder if she realized last minute she didn’t have the right piping tip for the vines or something. otherwise i don’t see why she wouldn’t just add them. but some people are weird 🤷♀️
I don’t get those that are saying, “She probably put the flowers so it wouldn’t be so plain.” That’s not okay. You didn’t ask for them. You wanted a grassy green cake with some vines and maybe the little pearls and butterflies. Who cares if the cake is “too plain.” It’s what you wanted. You shouldn’t have to inform her that you’re putting on your own decorations for her to make it to your specifications. Some people like plain things, like maybe you just really like that color green or something.
It’s just unfortunate for that price point. If anything, that green is nice.
That’s just bad customer service right there. I’d definitely leave a review wherever she’s advertising.
Is the inspo pic from her portfolio or did you bring that image to her?
I’m siding with the baker. You gave an inspo pic, then changed the whole vision—not really fair to be mad that the cake decorator couldn’t read your mind.
That color of icing was made specifically for that cake, so it would be impossible to make the vines match the cake after the fact—plus you wouldn’t be able to pipe the icing on top over the top of the vines so it would look weird.
Ask her a partial refund or let her know you will write a review, because she clearly lacks professionalism and this is not what you asked for!!!
Litterally the first rule is ‘the customer is always right in terms of taste’ it DOES NOT MATTER if she thinks the vines would look bad. It’s YOUR cake.
Just curious, as the reference cake done by the same baker? (Personally, I find it best not to ask another baker to replicate another baker’s cake because the result will always turn out bad.)
This was like asking AI to recreate the cake for you. She can be annoyed all she wants but if is not what you ask for is not what you ask for, if she was unable to make it happen then she should have communicated
I think it’s so cute!! 🥰
Ah the name of one of my favorite songs.
“We’re almost twenty-three and you’re still mad at me
So much that I said to you and I want to take it back now” 🎶🎼🎵
That’s not even the same shade of green. She needs to refund you.
I also don’t like the shades of greens in her cake.
All I ever think of when I see these posts are why the fuck are people spending so much money on a cake lmao
I expect “adding your own decorations” would have left you a result that you would have been very unhappy with. You got over a 20% discount on a cake (which she did not have to give you for removing things) and she did more than you asked for, AND it’s beautiful.
I think you’re being kind of awful over the whole thing.
