I know the ribeye is king to many, but nothing beats the combination of texture, fat, and lean that a strip offers. Pictured: Prime NY strip from Costco, reverse seared and finished on a cast iron.

IMO picanha is like NY strip but with amplified upsides and none of the downsides. Its more tender, you get more fat cap on one side, and it doesn’t have the gristle.
I think I would choose picanha over NY strip 99/100 times, but I’m happy with both ribeye and picanha. I would still buy NY strip if the quality and price was right.

I agree with this. I do far more ny strips than ribeye because the all around flavor is better imo
FitLaw4
I love them too. Not a fan of fatty steaks myself. Ribeyes are to fatty for me
syn_vamp
it’s definitely in the top 3.
Jayy514
Rib steak just wins every time imo but I love me a good NY strip also it’s definitely one of the better cuts

One strip is perfect for us and the dog

Which ever you think is the best cut, is the best cut.
All depends on your preference for mouth feel and fat ratio
Weird-Ad326
I agree. I used to be in camp ribeye… But after cutting off the fat you aren’t left with much. Strip is the way

Strip is definitely what I tend to gravitate to.
lukkynumber
Absolutely. I LOVE steak but I don’t enjoy pure fat. So a ribeye is a waste for me, relatively speaking (even though I love the eye – that is absolutely amazing)
Give me a NY every single time.

Does filet mignon not exist anymore, or does everyone like being a contrarian?

Ribeye is easily my favorite but I’ve had to stop eating them because I was going overboard. I might have a few per year now. Strip is a nice balance that I can eat more often. Not my favorite but it is really good.

NY strip, Ribeye, Picanha…. those are my top 3

Yes, right behind ribeye 🙌🏽

Why does every simple opinion need to be a hot take lol

Love both, I probably prepare strips more at home just because of the size and it’s just my wife and I.
Rosilyn_The_Cat
It is one of the worst premium cuts to me! Doesn’t have the flavor of a ribeye or texture of a filet. Ribeye gang for life
Top sirloin with a fat cap (picanha) IMHO beats the NY across the board: flavor, tender, cost
Sacmo77
I prefer porterhouses because I bet bone strip and get some filet too.
Greedirl
I agree. Whatever you enjoy is the best cut.
I personally have the best results with New York strips so I tend to go after those more often. They are also fairly cheap where I live.

NY or Ribeye
GrillinFool
I agree. My fave.

My go to is always NY strip, if I’m feelin pricey and a special occasion I do like a nice porterhouse just for the sheer quantity haha. But really I want the thickest cut possible for the least amount, with good marbling (it’s a balancing act haha). If the choices suck then I just go with tri tip, which is king!!!
