This is my new favorite way of planting onions. Last year, I grew the biggest onions in my life. This year, I’m going to try and beat them. And here’s how. Get some onion starts, gloves, a triel, and fertilizer. Dig out a trench with enough room on both sides to plant some onions. Then, fill it with organic fertilizer, ideally high in nitrogen and phosphorus. Those are the first two numbers on most fertilizer bags. The goal is to get as many leaves as possible before your onions start to bulb, because each leaf adds one layer to your onion. Cover your trench and lay your onions out 6 in apart on both sides. And don’t plant them too deep. Only plant about an inch deep. This helps them develop better bulbs. As they grow over the season, the roots will reach out and access all of the fertilizer you’ve added to your trench. And that’s why

so wheres shrek?
Bro just use the sprinkler method
I want those onions
Why you use nitrogen and others no healthy things
Bigger is not always better, especially not with tasty stuff. And also super unpractical, how often you need an onion of the size of a melon… i hope you have at least a good recipe for french onion soup. And of course enough onion powder to make up for the big watery boring onion ^^
Not starting onions from seeds feels not genuine gardening, I dont understand it.
but you didn't mention when is the best time of year to start onions.
The majority of my onion sets bolted… 😢 I let one of my Walla Walla sweets go to seed so I can go back to seeds next year.
I want more updates on the crows
Nice loop edit
Where can I get onion starts like that? I have tried with sets and with some starts that were way less beefy than the ones you planted. I also live in Northern CA so I plant mine in the latter fall then you do in Southern CA.
Mine were bigger.
This year, I went for smaller onions. Pearl up to about 3" bulbs. Just for grilling, and canning. I'm still harvesting onions, because I planted them everywhere. No onion bed. Just in beds with everything else.
I started with seeds i found from hmart. They grow grow. You should try them
😍😍😍🫶
– Pretty cool information
I "grew" onions this year. Chucked em in all my pots… the only ones that did well were alone so they got less water xD
I always do better growing from seed so next time Ill try my own starts with your advice
should we grow them in fall?
What is your organic fertilizer mix? I'd like to mimic it.
So I don’t see that you’re doing anything different
I have some growing in my raised garden bed
Can't these be planted in late winter
I mean just use a grandmaster sprinkler and you'll have some weighing a couple hundred pounds or kgs
I have to replace the top 12 inches of soil in my planters before planting my winter starts. This soil I have in their is terrible (it was donated to us by the city of Oakland. ) What soil would you recommend?
Thanks Epic guy maybe they will size up for us too. I guess at the depth of planting every year.
When do you start onions?
Is that blood and borne fertiliser?
I did that and the bulbs never breached the surface they were large but most rotted away after I tried to harvest them
It would be nice if you gave your zone and the month that you planted them. Thanks.
Shit happened
