When it comes to deciding a favorite Thanksgiving side dish, it’s tough to go wrong with the classics.
But which one is the best?
We asked Cape Cod Times readers to decide. Our Thanksgiving side dish bracket ran for the past couple of weeks, pitting several of the most popular Turkey Day foods against one another. It started with 16 sides and included favorites like mac n’ cheese, gravy and roasted butternut squash.
The final showdown on Cape Cod was between stuffing and pumpkin pie.
Now, we have a winner, with an overwhelming 79% of the vote − stuffing.
A brief history lesson on stuffing
Stuffing has been around for centuries, and historians have said a simple stuffing, likely just onions and herbs, was likely used by the Pilgrims with their waterfowl, according to the Smithsonian. Over time, it evolved to the stuffing we know today.
