I saw that Umiya has a banner on the old Howard Ln Baby A’s that they plan to open.
I didn’t check for an opening date, but it’ll be nice to have another sushi restaurant. It’ll also be interesting to see if they plan to remodel the outside.

Is AYCA Sushi a national trend? It seems like we’ve gotten so many of them lately. I can totally appreciate their ability to make it more available to people vs all the $200+ omakase restaurants you’re lucky to find a reservation at but just seems like a hard turn.

What is with all these AYCE sushi places opening. Is it trash fish and super cheap or something for them to operate. There’s so many of these places and they aren’t that good.

The one in Hebner Oaks in San Antonio has been a go to for years now, hopefully this one can hold the same standard. They also make most of their money in drinks and lunch deals beyond the AYCE, or so it seems.

Hmmm. I know there’s an Umiya in Cedar Park, and an Umiya in Leander. They don’t share a website, and aren’t AYCE.
Humpf — Google’s AI says they were started by the same person but run separately with different menus. Weird. I’m guessing Umiya AYCE is going to probably need to change their name or start paying the lawyers.
