We visited the Bordeaux area this year and winemakers across the quality spectrum kept mentioning the difficult situation facing the industry. Smaller Champagne producers seem to face challenges as well.
As a consumer I’ll take their word for it, but I’m also a bit surprised. Prices have gone up a lot over the past 5 years.
gortogg
This is a direct communication of the wine producers representatives.
They managed to protest in a city that is a stronghold of the french far right, just a before a wine tech summit (in a progressist town nearby), all of that while abusing illegal immigrants to cultivate their soils and collect grapes.
Let’s keep in mind that french wine industry is an industry. Small producers are suffering, yet, the voice that is heard is the one of representatives that may not have small producers success in mind. Just profit.

It avoids to mention that they face climate change while fighting against any adaptation laws, usually advocating for weaker environmental protection. They also forget to mention the awful work conditions and legal status, being some times condemned for litterally slavery (https://www.lemonde.fr/societe/article/2025/07/21/vendanges-en-champagne-trois-personnes-condamnees-a-de-la-prison-ferme-pour-traite-d-etres-humains_6622836_3224.html).
