Another world market purchase, I am a sucker for a good tomato sauce tin. This was just, ok. Not very saucy, and the spice was barely a tingle. The fish were dense and meaty, but the sauce was just so weak. Porthos continues to be a just ok brand, not cheap enough to be a daily driver. The Jose Gourmet sardines in tomato sauce and the Nuri spiced sardines in tomato sauce remain my two favorite tomato tins.

Im with you. I have yet to be overly impressed with porthos for the price point.
Plus, in my three outings with this can, spaced over several years, there were always scales lurking in the sauce. If I’m gonna reach for a saucy tin, it’s gotta be reliably scale-free.
I feel pretty similar about Porthos as a brand generally. Just OK, but beat by other competitors at their price point. I was… very put off by their teriyaki can
“Just OK” has been my assessment of almost everything Porthos I’ve tried. The one exception is the smoked salmon, which is very good. Not too smoky, but I prefer that to overly smoky. Have you tried it?
