Any indication of what is happening here? Cayenne peppers turning black


Located in North Texas, Zone 8.

Late to fruit these are supposed to be normal cayenne peppers. Started turning black about a month after fruiting, no dropping peppers yet but it has been cold on an off for the past couple weeks. I haven’t picked any yet to look inside.

    That’s completely normal happens to my peppers alot in zone 5. Supposedly this can sometimes happen if the plants are exposed to low night time temperatures, or can be an indication of low phosphorus. Your peppers look pretty healthy though. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. This happens to my jalapeños, and other green peppers all the time. It will not affect the quality in any way.

    This commonly happens to peppers as they’re ripening. When it has both green and red pigments at the same time it can look black.

    I’d expect them to turn red soon.
