Opened it today and it’s in a really nice place. Still some dark fruit left like cassis and blackberry, but the main personality comes from the age imo. Lots of cedar, old leather, some oak, a little tobacco, and that earthy forest floor note you get from older Bordeaux.
The tannins are soft and smooth. It’s not trying to be big or powerful at this point. It’s more of a calm, classic, mature Bordeaux with a medium to long finish that leaves a good mix of dark fruit and cedar behind.
Enjoyed with a nice ribeye!

omg the “forest floor note” sounds so specific – like how do you even know what that tastes like? i need to level up my wine vocab cause all i can say is “yep that’s wine.
Nice!
Goodness 1989 is a stellar vintage that can rival 1990.
89 sheesh, I bet that was money
Talbot is a great value for Bordeaux! 4th Growth in the 1855 Classification and can be had a great price points. The 2022 just made the WS Top 100 for the year (#13) and you can find it for under $80 in some places. The 2019 was #4 on the 2022 WS Top 100. I love that wine. Still have two bottles of the 2016 in my cellar.
