As always, it was a lunch marked by warmth and good humour for the members of the Italian Pensioners Club, held at the Casa D’Abruzzo Club.

The monthly gathering, always well attended, is a cherished moment of connection for the community—but this time it carried an especially festive note.

Among the guests, the Dintino family took the opportunity to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: the 99th birthday of Maria Nicolazzo.

Nicolazzo was surrounded by the affection of her daughter Giovanna and her many friends at the club.

The day also welcomed 35 fellow Italians from the San Carlo Home for the Aged in South Morang and their carers, all of whom were greeted with warmth and genuine appreciation.

In her opening remarks, the club secretary, Mary Marcuccio, highlighted the symbolic significance of their presence: men and women who embody an important chapter in the history of Italian migration in the 1950s and ‘60s, witnesses to sacrifice, brave choices and a lifetime spent building a better future for their families in Australia.

A particularly moving moment was dedicated to the outgoing president, Alberto Verna, and his wife Elvira, who were warmly thanked by members for their 11 years of voluntary service to the club.

Their tireless dedication, steady presence and commitment to the community were acknowledged with deep affection and gratitude.
