I was at a big sale at a local store recently and spotted about four bottles of the 2016 Barolo. According to the vintage charts I usually check, 2016 was an absolutely stellar year. I’d already bought a lot of wine that day, so I hesitated… and ended up not grabbing them.
But the thought keeps lingering — who knows when I’ll come across 2016 Barolo again?
Has anyone here tried this Barolo from Ceretto? What did you think?

2016 is a killer vintage! once upon a time Ceretto made great barolo…now they just make ok Barolo
Ceretto is one of the most important producers in Piedmont, and they are also owners of the 3 starred restaurant Piazza Duomo, in Alba. That’s a great barolo for what seems a great price!
Yep, I’ve had it back to the ’60s.
Old vintages are great. Not quite top tier, but great.
Newer vintages are good, perhaps not great. But 2016 is a great year and I’d probably grab them if this is a good sale.
If you ever come across their arneis…..you can probably skip that one.
Ceretto’s pretty mediocre, I wouldn’t worry about missing out on that too much.
As for vintages, 19 through 21 are all strong years so you’re kind of spoiled for choice right now.
Out of these four bottles, Ratti is clearly the most interesting wine. The rest is rather mass-produced industrial product.
