The tenth edition of Italian Cuisine Week in the World, a series of events organized by the Italian Embassy in the Dominican Republic to promote Italian culinary traditions, opened Monday in Santo Domingo.

This year’s initiative celebrates the theme ‘Italian cuisine between health, culture and innovation,’ in a favorable context, thanks to the presence in the Dominican Republic of numerous Italian restaurants and a receptive market, also due to the strong presence of our tourists in the country.

The activities promoted by the embassy are carried out in collaboration with the Dominico-Italian Chamber of Commerce and the Ice Office in Mexico City. Thanks to a public notice, local restaurateurs were able to join the initiative by helping to spread the theme of the edition through special menus, dedicated events and communication activities coordinated with the Embassy, enhancing Italian cuisine as a healthy, balanced and sustainable food model.

Thanks to the support of the ICE Office in Mexico City, a gala dinner will be held on December 3 during which the volume ‘Italy, Mediterranean Culinary Heritage’ will be presented. The publication, aimed at representatives of the main large-scale retail chains (Gdo), illustrates the peculiarities of Italian food and wine products with protected designations, telling the story of the territories and the evolution of the products that symbolize our tradition. The book also includes a directory of contacts of consortia for the protection of Italian excellence, offering tools to foster new business opportunities.

Another highlight will be the event organized on December 4 in collaboration with the Dominico-Italian Chamber of Commerce and the high-end supermarket chain Supermercados Nacional, dedicated to the ‘La Navidad nos une con Italia’ campaign.

The initiative, running from November 7 to December 31, promotes Italian products in the chain’s stores through dedicated display spaces and communication campaigns.

During the Dec. 4 event, inside one of the group’s main supermarkets, live cooking shows, wine tastings and a musical performance are planned to celebrate Italian culture in the Dominican Republic and strengthen the bond between the two countries.
