Stranger things have happened… but kicking off Christmas with Millie Bobby Brown at the Dish table feels exactly right!

Millie Bobby Brown became a global name at just 12 when she took on the role of Eleven in Stranger Things. With the final season on the horizon, she joins us fresh from life on her Georgia farm, where she lives with her husband Jake Bongiovi, their new baby daughter, and a rapidly growing collection of animals.

With a firmly organised list of likes and dislikes in hand, Angela goes for a guaranteed hit: Penne alla vodka — the dish Millie and Jake ate on their very first date. Before that comes a bowl of raw baby carrots (her favourite snack) and a Shirley Temple, her go-to celebration drink… and with Christmas officially underway, she’s very much celebrating. The pasta is paired with a glass of Castello Colle Massari Montecucco Rosso Riserva.

Millie is brilliantly honest about her food rules. Cake? Doesn’t care for it. Quinoa? Absolutely pointless. Food photos? A firm no. Edible cookie dough? Only in tiny, tiny portions. We also get some unintentionally excellent life advice from her mum and a glimpse of what comes next beyond Stranger Things.

We can’t all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. Send your dilemmas to dish@waitrose.co.uk and she’ll try to answer in a future episode.

Today on dish, I’m making penn alo vodka for Millie Bobby Brown. Wow. Wow. Wow. So, we’re going to start off by putting some butter in a pan. That was easy. And then our garlic’s going to go into there. And it says chop. I’m just going to microplane it in. And the key here is to make sure you do not burn your garlic. Then about two tablespoons of the tomato puree. Then give that a stir and allow that to sort of slightly cook out so you get rid of that real acidity there with it. Do you see sort of how the oil’s slightly separating? Then you know you’re ready to add your tin tomatoes. And that’s going to sort of simmer for about a good 5 to 10 minutes. So then we’ve got our pasta cooking at the same time and then we’ll finish it all together. All right. So I’m going to add my vodka now. And the vodka bizarrely sort of helps cut through the acidity of the tomatoes and adds a lovely warmth as you can imagine to the dish. And then we’re going to add about three tablespoons of double cream here. Maybe one more for luck. So drain your pasta straight into the sauce. Always reserve a little bit of the pasta water cuz if you need that helps emulsify it cuz it’s the starchy water that will help the pasta stick. Looking good. So a little bit of parmesan in there. Tiny little black pepper. We’re going to break off some basil in there as well. Here’s our penet Aliva vodka for Millie Bobby Brown. This is amazing.

  1. Everyone in this comment section like Angela is simpler than imagine selves to be. It’s fascinating watching what you guys laugh at, react to, on time when expected to. The faux fascination in the sky being blue or, penne pasta being cooked. Horrendous host. Always seems exhausted from having made a normal meal

  2. I’ve only ever made that once and it was delicious but next time I’ll use butter like you do and I think it will be more flavourful

  3. This dish has one of the biggest flavor payouts for the least amount of effort!

  4. She could put cereal in a bowl add milk and I would love it. She is the star the food is 2nd
