good afternoon, fishy friends!

I really enjoy when someone posts their local store's selection, especially when it seems nicely curated or more impressive than you'd expect. So I thought you guys might appreciate this spread. (I did the 3 main shelves in full view first, pics 3-5. Then I zoomed in on each by section so hopefully the tins would be easier to read.)

This is at Epicurus Gourmet, a market tucked away in a sort of warehouse-y industrial feeling area of North Hollywood. (at least they have a sign now so I don't miss the turn, lol.) I love this little gem of a market so much. Obviously the cans o' fish are the focus in this post, but they have a lot more than that! All the flavors of Torres chips, tons of condiments & accoutrements for charcuterie/seacuterie boards, fancy butters (Isigny Ste MΓ¨re Spring Butter is my fave – salt crystals galore!), meats, cheese… it's a dangerous place to go wandering, that's for sure. I was reminded of that fact this past week. πŸ˜‚

Anyway, just wanted to share… but also, here are two questions to anyone willing to answer:

1.) if you could try any ONE tin from this selection, for free, what would you choose?

2.) is there anything you feel like is a glaring omission from these shelves (either full brand or specific tin) that I should try to request them to carry?

also want to disclose that this is NOT an ad or sponsored/employee post. i'm just a regular customer who took a bunch of shelf photos as discreetly as possible lol

  1. 1. The Gold Label RamΓ³n PeΓ±a Sardine in Hot Olive Oil (pic 13)-I’d be interested in seeing if there’s a worthwhile improvement over, say, spiced Nuri. I usually keep spiced tins around the $6-10 mark, as I like to savor the quality and flavor of the fish at higher price points, and spiced oil sometimes covers up more than it complements. But, Gold Line RP has never done me wrong, so it’d probably be where I’d start if I waned to go far outside of that price range.

    2. I double and triple checked so if I missed it it’s totally on me, but the lack of Conservas de Cambados needs to be remedied. Some of the best tinned mollusks (barnacles, razor clams, octopus) in phenomenal packaging (the fiber mesh is a vibe). I also don’t think I saw any garfish-definitely a species they should look into stocking an ample variety of.
