This was the first year that Edith's West Village location had the chance to offer the annual Carmela, and I'm pleased to say that it's up to OG standards. Other than Poulet Sans Tête, this is my favorite Thanksgiving sandwich in the city: turkey, a fried stuffing patty, creamed spinach aioli, and cranberry dijon on Orwashers' excellent rye. This is a very well-balanced sandwich, with some nice herbs coming through thanks to the stuffing and aioli, the right touch of cranberry, and helped along significantly by the rye. Now, it's not a huge, mountainous hero like at some places, but my appetite is on the smaller side and I'm fine with not having it sit in my fridge for three days while I chip away at it.

Last year I went over to Williamsburg to get this, but it was nice to be able to walk to it this year. If you have to get only one sandwich of this type, and don't feel like heading uptown, I'd say go with this one, with the caveat that I'm trying Parm's version next week.
