Lampshade, the 12 year old greyhound, has had her last dinner.
She's been unwell for a while, progressively moving towards more bad days than good ones. Between the summer heat being a little too much for her, and her back leg slowly giving out day by day, we've had to make the call. She goes in tomorrow.
Tonight she has her first and last steak, a 320g scotch fillet cooked as best as I can manage, sous vide then pan seared. I let it rest for about 30-40 minutes, allowing it to cool before cubing it for her slow feeder. If not for the slow feeder, I think she still would have found a way to eat it whole.
I've wanted to post in here for a while and wish it was on a slightly happier note, but I'm glad that steak could at least brighten her last night.
Hold onto your pets, and make the most of the time you have with them.

Did the same for my cat a week ago! Made it to almost 21 years old. Not usually supposed to have human food but she ALWAYS tries to get into it so I figured I’d spoil her.

Sending you all internet hugs. We had to put our Mocha (she was a 14 y/o am staff/Greyhound/beagle snuggle machine) to sleep a week ago yesterday. Hurts like hell still but getting easier. Those small firsts like coming home after work and cooking without my kitchen helper was tough. Lampy got the best and lampy knows how much love you all have towards her. Take care of yourself and know you all did right by lampy.
