Dogs that ingest plastic may experience vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy or stomach discomfort. Ingesting large amounts can lead to serious health problems.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Dog food sold in 14 states is being recalled because it may be contaminated with plastic, posing a choking hazard for pets.

Fromm Family Foods is recalling 300 cases of its Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe frozen dog food after discovering potential plastic contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Wednesday.

The voluntary recall affects 16-ounce “gently cooked” frozen chubs with a best-by date of Dec. 25, 2026 and lot code B01.

The product was distributed through neighborhood pet stores across more than a dozen U.S. states, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Alaska, as well as in Ontario, Canada.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported, but dogs that ingest plastic may experience vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy or stomach discomfort. Ingesting larger amounts of plastic can lead to severe complications, such as gastrointestinal upset or intestinal blockage.

Pet owners whose dogs consumed the affected food and show any of these symptoms should contact a veterinarian.

Federal officials said the recall was initiated after consumer complaints. The company told the FDA it identified the source of the contamination and has implemented additional safeguards to prevent future issues. No other Fromm products are included in the recall.

Customers who purchased Bonnihill BeefiBowls Beef Recipe with the affected lot code should stop feeding it to their pets immediately and return it to the retailer for a refund. For questions, consumers can contact Fromm Family Foods at 1-800-325-6331 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time or email info@frommfamily.com.
