Upgraded from Eureka Silenzio to Niche Zero. The Eureka weighs significantly more. Keeping the 1zpresso hand grinder for power outages or the apocalypse

As both, I guess that puts me in contention for Worst Human. 🙁

  2. Surely both lag behind the photographer/videographer.

Only online though, in person they’re all nice as pie. Online, they will go to war over the tiniest spec differences between brands.

I feel like espresso kinda caps out at buying a Slayer or something for like 10k. Even getting a couple endgame grinders is “only” a couple grand a piece. The depravity can only go so far.

The ceiling for audiophiles seems so much higher, especially if we’re talking like stereo systems and not just IEMs and headphones.

I’m not really in the audiophile hobby though. Dipped after picking up some Moondrop Arias, Etymotic ER2SEs, and a DAC, and then realizing I didn’t care enough to use them over some true wireless earbuds. They do definitely sound way better though.

The venn diagram is basically a circle. Being a wanker isn’t usually specific to one interest, it’s a way of being that you apply to everything you come across. Anything I am not yet a wanker about is just something I was intimidated away from by even wankier wankers.

I’m still disgusted that I have to use NON CONDITIONED power lines for my grinder.

  6. I’m glad it’s not just me that sees the similarities between audio and coffee dorks. As a low tier both, Bodum kettle w meat thermometer, K6, Hario Switch for coffee and Moondrop Aria & Grado SR80x for audio it’s gotta be audiophiles. You can only spend so much on coffee stuff, like maybe 20k max for a grinder and espresso machine. Audio on the other hand, boooooooi

    Audiophiles

Ive been into that side for a while and saw people buying 66k euro speaker cables that would get like MAYBE a 1% improvement

I havent been in the espresso side for too long but i definitly didnt see snake oil like that

  8. Worst is an audiophiles face when he’s trying to listen to music and you the espressophile is grinding

being into espresso, tech, photography and watches definitely hurts my wallet

me as a person, not sure

  10. Let me tell you about our Lord and Savior, the vinyl record collection.

Audiophiles and it’s not close. You’re not spending $5k on a power conditioner for your espresso machine.

I’m in my twenties and have already dumped more money that I’d like to admit into audio, keyboards, and coffee equipment. Either I’m having my midlife crisis right now or, even worse, it’s yet to come. I shudder to imagine what I’ll be burning money on then.

  13. So how were you gonna make hot water during a power outage?

  14. StuHudson78

I’m both, and I suspect I’m not the only one. It’s a similar mindset!

  15. As someone who is both. Audiophiles are worse by a long shot.
Meeting an audiophile in person is like a duck measuring contest for whom has spent the most money on gear. Most audiophiles don’t care about the music only for their equipment and how much money they have spent on exclusive media such as audiophile lps. The amount of snake oil in this hobby is discussing. Being an EE makes it even worse when you know how transmission lines work yet they try to sell you magic cables.
Every espresso/coffee lover I’ve met has been a pleasure to talk with. Two of my best friends are into coffee. No one is out there trying to tell you they’re better just because they’ve spent more money on equipment, quite the opposite in fact. Also I love telling baristas in small ( self owned) coffee shops I like their coffee it’s the best conversation starter. There is close to no elitism in coffee making.

I’m a hometheather enthusiast. Not sure that counts as Audiophile. But my gear is barely at the upper level entery for both hobbies. Sadly though, It’s really the only two hobbies I have.

E61-philes. Especially the ones who buy those hideous wood kits.
