first time growing pumpkin and need advice on making a mound to transplant these seedlings so they produce a whole pumpkin and which insects to protect against. thing is, i live in costa rica and the soil is compact, dense, humid. which i’ve heard they don’t like. i’ve mixed 50% dry soil (from the last photo) w/ 50% moist soil in the pots when i first planted them. unsure how much space these guys need as well but here’s what i’m working with. cheers!

For space…depending on variety…you want mounds that are about 4-5ft apart per plant for better growth. You want to make sure they get enough sunlight, have good air flow and in your area…unfortunately, your humidity is likely going to be a problem. But if you are planting more tropical varieties of pumpkins…you will have more success. You want compost-rich soil. Well draining.
