Smoked for about 40 mins in the kettle over lump and a couple chunks of cherry wood. Tasted incredible, but are these "burnt"?

If it doesn’t taste burnt, it ain’t burnt.

If it doesn’t taste bad, I’d say they look just fine.

Looks good to me! The cherry wood may have helped you with some of that colour.

Cherry wood adds color due to extra smoke. You’re fine.

I would crush those – the other guy is right I bet it was the cherry wood that gave it the color. My turkey looked like that last week.

  6. That is where Guy Fieri resides my friend. Where the women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I’m talking about a place called Flavor Town…

As a guest I’d be thankful with anything you prepared for me. With this meal you prepared and would be in heaven. They look great.

See how the skin shrank and pulls back to expose the meat underneath that didn’t get the seasoning, and the skin looks crisp…I’ll have 3 please and thanks.

Depending on your tastes. But I’m salivating over those tasty looking birds.

The first part of your last sentence is what you should primarily be focused on, “Tasted Incredible”. As long as there was no bitter aftertaste, it’s not to dark AND you didn’t have dirty smoke. So great job! There will always be someone who says “it’s too dark” for those finicky people, don’t invite them back. If your rub has any paprika, brown sugar, or black pepper, all 3 of these will darken as they smoke. Not a bad thing, just a natural thing.

FWIW, I love oak wood for smoking just about everything. I do use Hickory every now and then. Fruit words, I’ve heard are best green, for imparting flavor during cooking – I heard this from Myron Dixon.

Absolutely not. Looks good. It’s all preference anyway.
