My boss says there are some good steaks in the freezer we got from a client and he wants me to have them. He says, I know you will prepare them properly. I get them home and open the box and see a date of 6/14/16. Are they worth a shot?

Everyone is different, but I would still cook these if I knew they were frozen properly. They might not taste as good as 8 years ago, but if they were frozen before they went bad and not defrosted they are still safe to eat.

Vac packed meat it best used within 3 years, but as long as it’s never been thawed/refrozen it should be safe to eat, though it is well past peak quality.

Shit if anything, slice them really thin and Philly cheesesteak it up

Make it into steak tartare to be extra safe

One day I hope to have “forgot a bunch of wagyu steaks in the freezer for 8 years” money

I once visited a fish warehouse in South Boston that had several tons of fish that had been caught and frozen more than a decade earlier, but was tied up in litigation due to someone labeling and trying to sell it as a slightly different species.
The team at the warehouse told me it’s still okay (legal and will cook properly) to sell it as ‘fresh’ since it was flash frozen immediately after being caught.

They look fine so they should be fine

Love to see Omaha steaks that aren’t Omaha Steaks! Enjoy the Wagyu.

In my opinion, those look fine. I would not hesitate to give them a try. If they were all frosted over then that would be different. I have eaten meats wrapped in freezer paper that were as much as five years old and tasted perfect. Those look great so fire up the grill.

I just cooked a steak I found in my chest freezer that was 6 years old. Tasted just like the steer I slaughtered last year

Is it safe, no idea. Would I cook it up and eat it, yes.

Great it’s been aged for almost 9 years. Very hard to find beef that’s aged for 9 months even at high end restaurants you can’t find it. Consider yourself lucky

As long as they were frozen properly, I’d risk it for the biskit.

The freezer burn is strong with this one.
BlkDawg7727
Please cook it, eat it and tell us if it was any good or if it made you sick.

If its stayed completely frozen and it’s vacuum sealed, it should be perfectly safe and devoid of freezer burn. I’m a bit puzzled by the posts saying it isn’t safe, unless I’m missing something?

No way. You should have cooked it 7.5 years ago

A hard no for me but it’s your stomach.

Air sealed, but a little freezer burned. Shave off a few millimeters (of burn) on each side should be good.
