Shelves at the EvCC Food Pantry are thinning as donations become sparse.

The pantry, currently located in Whitehorse Hall 290, has seen a decline in donations this quarter, leading to shortages of essential items such as non-perishable foods, diapers and hygiene products. The pantry provides free groceries to students and staff who are facing food insecurity. Staff said donations from the community are vital to continue ensuring students have consistent access to food and hygiene products.

EvCC’s Food Pantry is a part of a statewide effort by colleges to address food shortages among students. As winter approaches, the need for community support is growing as the pantry works to serve all students in need. Food insecurity among college students is not just about hunger; it affects academic success, mental health and retention skills. With less concern of where their next meal may come from, students can instead focus on their education.

With rising living costs and limited budgets for many students, the EvCC Food Pantry continues to be an essential service, bridging the gap between basic needs and academic goals. It stands as a reminder that access to basic needs is fundamental to student success.
