Caused a scandal posting these snow globe cookies because I used plastic ornaments. Do these belong here 🙈?

They look cool man. Dont sweat it.

I think they look great! Don’t let them get you down!
without_your_love
these are so cute
enigmaticbloke
They look great but if it ain’t edible, don’t put it on my plate. I hate garnishes but especially inorganic ones.
Cautious-Ease-113
No, you should see the sh1t you get here……
These are great, I love the use of the bauble halves, I have those (every year I measure my daughter with ribbon and put it in a clear bauble with a mini card), so I might use that idea too. Just because someone is being pedantic about it not being 100% edible material doesn’t mean they aren’t 100% awesome. 🙌
badchefrazzy
Just take a silicone ball mold next time and do sugar glass in it. It’s not -easy- but you won’t have to deal with the plastic criers again.
DrocketX
You’re never going to win a cooking competition on Food Network that way. Time to break out the isomalt.
Otherwise don’t worry about it too much. Although you probably would want to warn anyone you’re serving this to in case they’re also someone who’s spend the last several weeks watching Christmas baking championships.
AssWhoopiGoldberg
You did a good job, and I don’t see the big deal with the plastic ornaments if you aren’t heating them. We take in much more plastic from things we don’t even realize or think of, this seems pretty benign to me 🙂
JuiceInteresting2348
usually they are made with isomalt sugar
JuiceInteresting2348
They are usually made with Isomalt sugar which is edible
ForeTheTime
They look cool but it is stupid. If I want to eat the cookie I’ve now also got to throw away a messy plastic ball. Could have left that part off and cookies would be better
figgypudding531
They’re cute, but things you eat should be entirely edible. It’s annoying to have to remove non-edible things, and what are people going to do with the plastic covers after? It feels wasteful (and also I hope they were properly washed before putting on the cookies).
ShatoraDragon
Give everyone 2 so they can reattach both halves and decorate a new ornament.
nyuszimuszii
It could be super cute without the plastic part.
kingsleyce
I mean it’s no dumber than on a birthday cake
Ready_Release_2292
You’re not selling these, so who cares if you spend extra time getting burnt on isomalt or not? Did the people who actually ate the cookies enjoy them? Did you bring one single smile to someone’s face (including your own)? If the answers are “yes” then the ornaments did their job and plastic is just fine.
dimestoredavinci
I hate it when they leave the tails on the shrimps in my pasta, just to look fancy. I definitely don’t want to have to completely dismantle my cookie before i eat it
NoPerformance6534
No. No more so than candles on a cake. There are purists who will complain, but plastic domes make the confection with the realm of try it at home, which is a big plus. There are tons of treats one must “dismantle” to eat, and I can’t help but think of wedding cakes with platforms, staircases, pillars, and all manner of oddments used to get the desired effect. Those complaining should also look at the array of plastic items used as cake toppers on birthday cakes. I myself am guilty of making cakes with lights embedded in them 30 years ago. Cookies are not that different.
Scary_Yoghurt_4745
You did an amazing job. The cookies are really adorable and I’d be so happy to see these. Very creative with the ornament!
Janesbrainz
Man I love it, I don’t think it’s stupid at all. For an every day meal? Yeah I want everything on the plate to be edible. For a special christmas treat? That’s the time for silly little decorations and cute things. If I was a kid and my mom made these for Christmas I would be amazed lol. And I totally agree ain’t nobody got time for them sugar bubbles haha. Adorable 🙂
wild-thundering
I feel like it’s like a plastic ring on a cupcake just lift it off and eat…
hellseashell
Its cute. I thought for sure the problem was the design on the Christmas present looks like a dick… sorry!!! I hate plastic, but you can reuse the ornaments, so it can be a cute gift too.
AwarenessThick1685
I don’t get the hate. They’re cute. Oh no you can’t eat the plastic 😯
Quesriom
Don’t put inedible things on stuff you want people to eat.
Silvawuff
I guess you could do the pretty isomalt domes, but plastic is fine too. Pros: cookie toppings will stay fresh because these offer a more even air seal, your domes won’t melt if you’re in a humid place, and eating a large chunk of hard unflavored sugar isn’t very yummy anyway. Just take off the dome and go for the good stuff!
hauntchalant
You’ve got “scandal” because you’ve put regular, not food safe, plastic on top of food, dude. Those ornaments tend to be chemically treated when transported and are made from materials that can leech out into the food. Even if you washed them, I wouldn’t touch these with a ten foot pole because the plastic isn’t safe to be put on consumables. Yes, the cookies are cute, but you’ve created a ton of unnecessary waste as well. I can’t use half a plastic bulb, so it just gets thrown out. That’s why these types of cookies are made with isomalt. It’s edible and creates little to no waste, if done correctly. Love the idea, but the execution needs some work, IMO.
vegasbywayofLA
Scandal? Most people were very complementary about your cookies, even with the plastic dome. I thought they were cute the first sub I saw them in. I’m not sure why you would say that, except you do tend to repost the same thing a lot.
takenalreadythename
Y’all must have had some sad childhoods talking about plastic, I remember birthday cakes had literal toys on top of them just stuck into the frosting and nobody cared
squidtheinky
I think it’s cute with the plastic. Sure, you could make it “edible” with isomalt, but who is actually going to eat a huge piece of isomalt like that? Take the plastic off just like you would a cupcake topper and eat the cookies. Save the plastic and wash and reuse when you want to make snowglobes again.
hollowbolding
yeah nonfood in food is always <<
purpleblah2
I mean, just don’t put the dome over your food or make like a sugar glass dome?

If you can’t do the sugar work then don’t use anything at all. Especially a non biodegradable bloody item :/
somebassclarineterer
Too cute. Well if people are gonna complain send them my way, I will take the cookies.
Not everyone is a master of using isomalt sugar or whatever.
johnnytk0
These are cool, people on reddit are just always asshurt
Atalant
No. At least they are easily removable, a bubble of isomalt sugar might break someone’s teeth.
EvanFingram
yea that’s fuckin stupid
cursetea
This is crazy bc those are so cute and If someone brought them to a holiday party only a complete snob would be like “ummmmm you didn’t know about ISOMALT?”
People would just take the plastic off after taking in the effect, throw the top away with their paper plate and cup they also have and be done with it. Like how normal people act irl lol
Does a pizza with the plastic lid-holder in the center freak y’all out too? Did y’all never get cakes and stuff as kids with toys on it? Do y’all not remember ACTUAL BARBIE DOLL cakes lmfao?? People would be TOO SCARED to eat a cookie that had had this on it??? This comment section is hilarious
LordsOfFrenziedFlame
ITT: people upset that they’re faced with the decision of eating plastic or interacting with a cookie briefly. They look fun and festive, OP. Forget the haters

they look great and the ppl who they’re for will love it

Yes these definitely belong. Don’t put anything on your food that’s not edible
Ok-Error-6564
They are still adorable.

Saw your posts back to back on my feed lol

I think it’s fine. Isomalt Sugar can be hard for beginning bakers. Plus like, you can reuse these globe toppers.
CinemaDork
Plastic is not food. Technically it isn’t stupid food because it’s *not even food at all*.
Iseedeadpeople898
No different than people putting toppers on cake/cupcakes, most of which you can’t eat lol
