How do you guys keep yourselves encouraged to keep decorating? Even though I've been improving, I come here and see some of you people's work and I feel I'm not good enough, even though I know it all comes to practice. Btw you are amazing.
Pic of how I started last year, left it then tried again last month on the second pic, then what I made last week

Honestly, comparison is the thief of joy. Keep practicing and remember everyone started somewhere.
I have felt very similar to you in the past and I just remind myself that the people who like my work as-is will only benefit from me continuing to practice!
It’s about having fun. If I’m not having fun with it, what’s the point?
Also, part of the joy of cookie decorating for me is it’s literally a cookie. It’s meant to be eaten and it’s fleeting.
You can also look at your cookies and see the improvement. Keep trying new things and I challenge you to decorate regularly!
since I don’t make flooded cookies often, I don’t own a dehydrator….but I do allow a small fan to blow over them when drying… it helps reduce the puckering.
Yours look so good! I started a year ago as well and it can be hard seeing the flaws in your own cookies and then seeing perfect cookies here. I try to ask myself:
– did you have fun decorating them?
– did you learn something?
– are they tasty?
If I answer yes to all 3 it’s a solid win no matter how they look compared to others. I made a post yesterday showing my 1yr improvement. There’s still tons of room to improve but there are definitely better and they taste fabulous (I’ve eaten 8 in the last 24h lol).
A lot of people will say that “comparison is the thief of joy” but I think it’s more that who you compare to matters. Compare to yourself. With enough time and practice you can do more than you dreamed of.
Have fun!! Trying new designs and techniques keeps it exciting
Your progress is really clear when you look at the photos side by side. You’re moving in the right direction.
