Grooms hopes that everyone who comes through the door can experience a taste of who her grandmother was.

“I immediately want them to feel like they’re at home, like they’re at grandmother’s kitchen, they’re around family,” Grooms said. “So when you come, and you’re waiting for your food, you can play games while you wait on your food, so you don’t think about the wait time. If you know anything about soul food, you know your wait time can be elevated just a little bit because you want things to come out fresh.”

Grooms said Lula Mae’s was packed all day on Saturday, their opening day, and she’s grateful for the community’s support. She hopes to keep her grandmother’s legacy alive through Lula Mae’s.
