My partner got me one as a gift from a Mexican store in Berlin. It smells weird.. maybe the wet cement smell? But to be honest I’m not really sure what a wet cemented smell actually is.
This is the colour when wet and drying. You can see the lighter patches that show the colour once it is dry.

Here’s a site that describes how to determine authenticity [How to test the authenticity of your molcajete](https://www.foodrepublic.com/1294941/how-test-authenticity-molcajete/)
Gotta see the top. But it looks like mine does from the bottom. If you mean Berlin Germany, I don’t see them selling fake ones out there. Would be pretty surprised. Obviously it wasn’t made out there but I feel like one would be silly to sell fake products out there. Germany has a rep for producing quality goods. Great engineering out there.
Edit: Just realized I said “out there” FOUR times 😂 try to ignore. Hollllly I’m cringing at myself

It was drying out upside down so the top inside isn’t fully dry but maybe you can tell now?
Heat it up and find out op
If it is hard as rock and is rock and you can put in the oven at 500° its real.
I recently bought one for the first time at Costco… I didn’t know there were fakes! Good thing I haven’t opened it yet
