Got into coffee within the past couple years. Started with Vietnamese coffee with the phin, found my way to a moka pot, and now I'm delving into espresso. Since having our first born (almost 2 months old!), I haven't been able to do my other hobbies as much. So naturally my addictive personality has led me to learning to make espresso at home so I don't keep buying $7-8 mocha lattes. Wife wouldn't let me get a setup until she knew I'd still be interested after having the kid.

Setup:
– Bambino Plus (inherited from my cousin who can't be bothered anymore and just uses his Chemex. I would've bought the simple Bambino for myself otherwise)
– DF54
– Normcore tamper, puck screen, dosing funnel
– Maestri House scale
– Some WDT from Amazon

It's quite the learning curve and I'm glad I have this sub to help me get started. I look forward to circle jerking with all you coffee degenerates!

Heeeyyy Looks like a nice setup.

I actually just picked up a Bambino plus on a whim yesterday- found it at Homegoods for $300.

Is the DF 54 the best grinder for it? I only ask because some have said that the Bambino isn’t the best for light roasts, and the flat burr grinder is for lighter roasts? I didn’t really understand that.

What made you go with the DF54 as opposed to a conical grinder?

Hah, love this. You’re officially in with the rest of us !

Enjoy the climb, it only gets more addictive from here

Very nice! I was gifted the bambino plus recently and am loving it. I’ve a question regarding the puck screen you mention above, do you use this in addition to the screen that’s built into the bambino or you replaced the machine standard one? Excuse my ignorance.

I have the exact same set up. I upgraded the basket to an IMS basket and bottomless portafilter. Considering getting a spouted portafilter as I find even with all the puck prep, bottomless still has little sprays that leave a bit of a mess.

  6. I only did pour over forever and an espresso machine maintenance and up keeps kept me away from getting one, I did jumped on board for coffee jack v2 on Kickstarter and hopefully the espresso will be as tasty as a true espresso machine 😂

Great! I think I spent around the same amount in total, with a delonghi 33.21 and the eureka mignon zero65.
Definitely a lot to learn here as well.

doing great, well done on everything, just take the plastic out the portafilter. Its just giving you microplastics per pull lol. To get it out is super easy, i had one of these, just take out the spring, then get a chop stick or metal straw, and stick it thru the bottom holes upwards, it should just pop out. good luck and welcome to the show!

I just got nearly the same setup (DF 64 II) and nearly the same story! First born is just over 2 months. That Amazon commercial with the new parents triggered me into getting an espresso machine. Also traveled to Italy this past summer and going from Italian Cappuccinos to Neapresso was depressing.

Great setup! I’m looking to upgrade to the DF54 soon and I’m in serious need of a more reliable scale.

I got the regular bambino and Mokkom 64mm grinder and it’s been fun diving in!

  18. I have the same set up! Grind size 20 with some medium roast beans, but don’t think I’ve dialed in. What settings are you using? Tips? I’m 3 days in lol
