The Italian Section at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University, is holding a special lecture on “Talk Italian-Thai Round (Dining) Table: Rice, Truffle & Sparkling Wine”, at the faculty’s Center of Digital Humanities, M floor of Boromrajakumari Building, Phaya Thai Road, on Dec 15 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
A collaboration with the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute, the lecture weaves together culture, language and cuisine, inviting the general public, students, scholars and culture enthusiasts to engage in dialogue, exchange perspectives and discover the profound connections between food and society.
Participants will explore the role of rice — an ingredient found in many culinary traditions around the world — as well as truffle and sparkling wine, which reflect the lifestyle and identity of the Italian people.
They will be guided through cultural and historical dimensions, culinary concepts, consumption practices and contemporary social aspects of both countries.
The speakers include Pajaree Tachart who will touch on “Life Of Rice, Rice For Life”, Emanuela Panke who will talk about “Taste Of Italy: Rice, Truffle & Sparkling Wine” and Panita Silapavithayadilok who will discuss “Place Identity Through Images Of Italian Food In The Media”.
This event is not only a conversation about food but also a special opportunity to gain new insights into the culinary relationship between Italy and Thailand.
