I already have more than 20ish indoor grown plants. 4 of them overwintering, the others still needing to grow. I ave these new seeds, but are just some of the peppers I am intrested in. I want both to grow them outside, and inside in cans/as bonsai for fun. I want to buy a binder in witch I can store the seeds all in one place as a little collection to renew every year. I was planning to buy the other pepper seeds (I don't think more than 8 others)I liked + interesting others veggies seeds for a nice veggie garden… but my father made me notice I have already too many peppers.
We don't have any space problem. We live in a house in the countryside my father bought, planning to do some farming, but for small burocratic details some aspects didn't go as planned and it's more than 20 years that the field is empty except for a small veggies garden. It's not a big field , just 1 hectar, but more than a garden… and we should never have given up on doing a little something with it. + the house is not small too, and there is a lot of unused/messy/unfurnished space.
I don't mean I am making an entire hot pepper field, it just means I don't see any logical reason I can't plant what I please since it's always me doing all the gardening even with his neglected plants/trees. And I can also do the heavy work prepping the soil.
I don't know if there are any logical reasons he is not elaborating or I am missing something.
I am autistic/adhd and I am sure this is an hyperfixation. I am used to the fact that when my relatives see me hyperfixating they try to stop me and redirect it because it's not seen as normal. I am used to the fact that they act irritated. But the reasons are not given.
they always say we have to plant something and fill the field, they plan and talk about different kind of trees every year …but a decade as passed.
The main thing I understood is that they see peppers as useless. Because you can't 'eat a plate of hot peppers', because they are too hot, because they don't even like the masochists that eat them.
Me and my bother are both very into the cooking/organolectic part and it's on my side.
How many peppers is too many really? And what are the hidden dangers of having too many peppers.
Maybe it's the fact that I will have too many hot peppers, much more than I can personally use and they think I will waste them? But they are also just beautiful.
Maye I should find a way to sell them or profit on something? How do I do that? Buy a dehydrator? How is it to have many many many hot pepper plants?

I had 17 super hot pepper plants one summer. It was a lot. But it was fun!
I have around 200 different plants. They all indoors, i have a whole room to them. Wife is definitely not happy when it’s planting season lol
I grow close to a 1000… If you have the space and time, theres no such thing as too many
The question is the amount of time your want to commit to processing. They can readily take over life if allowed to, particularly if you’re dealing with other heavy producers like tomatoes as well.
No such thing as too many
No such thing as too many, this season i have kept over 100 plants and sold a heap more, Its time consuming sometimes but well worth it if you have the time and space. ✌️
Depends on the space and the size of the pot. If you’re growing them in small containers, 30 plants is not much at all. But if your growing them in 20-30l pots, then even a handful of peppers can be too much.
But don’t let yourself limited. It’s probably only his fear of loosing control and finding the house filled with 50-100 plants, which of course is too much for indoor growing, not too much for outdoor. Also he doesn’t seem to understand hyperfixation or the passion of growing or peppers in general calling pepper heads masochists? It’s quite nasty and judgemental.
If you have the space without disturbing other members of the family, i don’t see the issue. Actually it’s a passion to be nurtured. I would help my child do what he loves.
I was growing 30 plants in a 2×2 meter plaxe inside my tiny apartment over winter. Once spring came, I had like 30-40 plants in a 4x4m place outdoors growing in small pots, so it’s not that much space required for this. If i had a big home I would grow around 30 plants indoors in medium sized pots, and just put them in different places as decoration.
The bigger the pots, the bigger the plant will grow, so consequently the bigger the yield. Big yields mean you need to either have a extra freezer to store them for later, or you need to process them immediately to avoid throwing them away. This will take time. This also means learning how to process peppers into sauce or dry spice, and safety measures to prevent spoiling, and then get somebody sick or even dead. Very important.
It’s true you cannot eat too many hot peppers without fucking up your body. and alone you might not be able to consume the yield of 30-40 mature peppers plants. Depends on the size of the plant and the yield.
If you want to have this many peppers you could sell them in multiple ways, but you most probably need to certification for selling /processing food. Check your country regulation.
You can either sell them fresh, dry them, or make hot sauces out of it. I know you are super excited but before getting into this, make your homework and asses risk, investment/profit. Ask yourself if it can be sold, where can you sell it, who is going to buy it, how are you going to sell it, what do you need for it to be sold[ packaging cooking equipment etc.] How much would that cost, do you have the financial support for that etc. etc.
Selling means you are having a business, which in many countries means creating a company, paying taxes and requires knowing different aspects of selling marketing logistics of it all and to come out with atleast a slight profit so it’s worth the resources.
Start small, experience first and think it through thoroughly. If you are just starting growing you’ll be facing pests and other problems during the year which will affect yield, and which you might not have accounted yet. So take it easy, grow for yourself, maybe grow in small-medium sized containers first so you can have multiple pepper varieties. Taste them, experiment for yourself and after you gained experience, you will know what to do. Good luck
I plan to plant a hectare of spicy plants this year… there are never too many
As always… just one more
Theres no such thing as too many! The more the merrier
My goal this next growing season is around an acre of plants, might cut it at half an acre depending on how germination goes.
I usually do about 30 plants a season with 5-6 varieties. Ive starting growing other veg so a lot of my garden space has gone from peppers to greens.
The number does not exist.
