After seeing all the recent posts about Paprika over the past few days, I decided to go check it out to find out if they would live up to the hype, and, as born and raised Mexican who knows what a good taco should taste like, I can tell they’re the real deal
In the photos: Bistec and Carnitas Tacos, and Carnitas Torta
Now, the Bistec taco was the special of the week I think, because it’s not in their regular menu, and it’s amazingly good, both the tortilla and the meat
But when I ordered one more, I found out it’s fucking $5.75 plus tax, which is amazingly expensive too, LOL
It reminded me of fucking Nixta and their outrageously gentrified prices
I mean, paying over $6 for a small sized taco is a crime, specially having El Charlie, El Tacorrido and El Güero just a couple minutes down the road
As I said earlier, I’m a born and raised Mexican, and as such, I can’t help but mention that with those 6 dollars you can get a badass 5 tacos order almost anywhere in México, bigger and tastier
Anyways, the tacos passed the test, but with those prices, it’s definitely not something you’d like to be eating that often

Are you:
– Comparing prices in Austin with prices in random spots in Mexico?
– Not tipping?
Mexican here…. I’ve come to accept that I can only get 2 tacos and not the typical order of 5/6 tacos because of the price. i guess it’s good for my health? 😂
But yea, paprika has some of the best tacos in town. I used to go to contodo but they closed. My favorite one is the taco de nopalitos.
Whew! I appreciate the hand for scale. After all these posts, I’m still almost certainly going to find a time to try them because obviously the praise is near universal. But dang, that’s a street taco sized taco and not a street taco sized price.
Was waiting for someone to post something more realistic. Yes they’re authentic but they’re expensive, there’s cheaper food trucks on N Lamar and other spots over town.
They have like 6 things on their menu.. do you know how many tacos/tortas/quesadillas they have to sell everyday just to break even? Commercial rent + operating cost ain’t cheap
That taco is 2 bites. Not paying $6 for that in Austin.
This post is stupid of course tacos are cheaper in Mexico. That’s like saying I got cheaper pad Thai in Thailand, no shit.
Enough with the paprika posts do we really need this much discourse? Eat it or don’t, no one cares.
It’s so tasty but my only gripe is the tacos have shrunk pretty considerably since opening the brick and mortar
Dude thats a proper torta, the bread was correctly brushed against the griddle where they make the taco meat.
Beautiful
You know how I know you are a Spanish speaker? Because you said “specially having El Charlie”. My wife dogs on me because I speak like that. Apparently it’s like poor sentence structure and it’s likely because of the way sentences in Spanish are structured.
“Gentrified prices” is racist and myopic. Historically, ANY minority culture food establishment has no choice but to focus on ultra-affordable ingredients and subterranean labor costs if they would like their blood, sweat, and time to mean anything. With the explosion of consumer interest in quality and sourcing in the 21st century, and evolutions in culinary culture, many of those traditions of economy are being adapted rapidly, and that brings dramatic cost increases (while our sociopolitical landscape doubles down on that front as well). You made comparisons between places like Paprika, Nixta, and Tacorrido, which occupy distinctly unique points on that graph of food sources and labor.
Yeah, love paprika. Been eating them for a couple years? But damn. Hella expensive. $3 used to be expensive for a similar taco, but still bigger. Good people, but yeah, adds up quickly.
Did these people hire some proper low-key influencers to post every 48 hours…
They’re full of meat. I eat at the cheap taco trucks where you can get five for ten. It’s a similar amount of meat and it isn’t as tasty. To each their own.
Jesus, people. Just stop being poor.
It’s not even close to being Nixta levels of expensive though. Most tacos are $4. It’s also a brick and mortar now. Rent ain’t cheap.
3 x $4 = $12 plus tax and tip, that’s just how much lunch costs these days like it or not.
Yeah. The cost is something, but really can’t do anything about US VS MEX pricing with different economic factors in running a business here vs there. Will still support Paprika, they’re good folks makin good food.
No mames si están cariñosos esos tacos guey
Excuse my ignorance but, those tortillas look store bought… are they?
It’s the most important part to me.
I’m surprised there weren’t posts about paprika until recently.
At ACL their saucers taco was one of the best tacos ever had. A number of restaurants had stands there with saudero so we tried them all.
Their saudero is great. That one day it was amazing. Need to keep going back to get that tastiness.
I live next to paprika and I find the tacos to be just OK. White people have the worse taste in tacos and this is one of those fine examples where white austinites hype up a place hard only for it to be mid as hell.
