Can't find too much information on it, I am only seeing instant sushi rolls from this brand

Can it be used as regular salmon? Cooked or 'raw' like a sashimi imitation?

They're not vegan themselves I guess they just came into too many of these lol

I googled it and it looks like you can use it for lox on bagels or sushi or a poke bowl. Doesn’t seem like it’s meant to be cooked like a regular salmon fillet. This is what I input in my Google search: konscious salmon block made from plants

Yeah their whole thing is sushi and poke but I don’t see why you couldn’t cook it. Just make sure it’s really dry since it’s made from konjac and that way you can actually get a sear on it

That’s so random for them to have and not be vegan.. I personally wouldn’t recommend cooking it but maybe you’ll enjoy it that way

Konscious Foods is the latest venture of vegan food entrepreneur Yves Potvin. You may know him from the (now defunct) line Yves Veggie Cuisine, and Gardein, both of which he founded and then sold to mega-corporations.

This product is not meant to be heated; it’s more like a sushi-type salmon replacement. But who knows? Since you have a bunch, experiment!

This is good! The base is konnyaku which is a type of sea vegetable. As others have said, we treat it like lox or sushi. A bit of soy sauce + liquid smoke marinade and it’s good to go.

Our local bagel shop features it with dairy free cream cheese for a lox and bagel type sandwich. It is really good…. Non vegans love it as well.

Yeah they make frozen vegan sushi rolls. They’re delicious.

Oh man, I’ve never heard of this and I’m so jealous! Doesn’t look like any of their products are available in my area 🙁

This is made from konjac, an Asian plant that can take on different textures when cooked. The ‘salmon’ you have has been coloured to look like salmon flesh, and if you slice it finely its texture feels freakishly similar. This is meant to be eaten as-is, as cooking it will change its texture. You can also find other vegan products made from konjac, like ‘vegan calamari’, that is meant to be cooked and has that slightly rubbery calamari texture.

Omg I’ve been wanting to try it, he can send me some too!!!
    I’ve had their frozen rolls/lunches, they’re decent!

I used to buy this brand’s smoked salmon slices from my local Fresh Thyme, though unfortunately they stopped carrying it. One of my favorite meat substitutes, tbh.

I’m so jealous! I really miss the Sophie’s kitchen “lox” and this looks like a super similar product. Slice as thin as possible, toast up a bagel, smear with cream ‘cheese’ of choice, add slivered shallots, capers, a squeeze of lemon juice and some olive oil, salt, pepper — fuuuuck.

are these any good? and are they good for you nutritionally? the one thing i miss as a vegan is salmon, i didnt know they had a substitute

I’ve had their sushi rolls several times and they’re actually super good! I wouldn’t cook this, it’s not manufactured for that so it could end up being really bad

i’m very curious about this. i just googled it and found some info that may be the same product (or maybe a similar product since they call it vegan smoked salmon but by the same company) on this page. let us know if you like it! I used to be able to get that brand’s poke bowls and onigiri from my local co-op grocers.
    Their onigiri was my fave!

Yoooo!!! What’s the protein like for this? Did it taste passably like salmon? Salmon is the hardest thing for me to give up

Oh! As someone whose partner doesn’t exactly love salmon bc texture, something like this could be an option.

This stuff is SO good, it’s insane how much it tastes like salmon, I’ve even tricked my Omni friends with it.
