A mum who routinely captivates thousands with her family meal content has delivered her assessment of a UK supermarket’s £25 frozen Christmas dinner. Rebecca Murphy, who has 911,900 TikTok followers, where she showcases the meals she rustles up for her family of five, recently put Iceland’s frozen Christmas dinner through its paces.
The four-person feast, retailing at £25 from the frozen food chain, features turkey breast alongside beef dripping roast spuds and maple glazed carrots, plus pork, onion and sage stuffing balls, sprouts with bacon, honey glazed parsnips, a dozen pigs in blankets, and turkey gravy. Kicking off her review, Rebecca, from Great Barr in the West Midlands, confessed she “didn’t have high hopes” the meal would satisfy her family clan, particularly her husband – lovingly dubbed ‘big Simon’ owing to his hearty appetite. However, she revealed: “I was pleasantly surprised.”
The footage shows Rebecca unpacking the feast and describing each item, before popping them into the oven and air fryer, noting it was “so simple to cook”, reports the Mirror.
Presenting the finished spread, Rebecca declared: “I didn’t have high hopes for this. I thought we were going to have to season it, I didn’t think it was going to be tasty. I was so wrong.
“This is one of the nicest roast dinners I think I have ever made. Big Simon agreed, and if you know him, you know he’s not a roast dinner fan.
“Guys, the turkey was moist, it was tasty, it was seasoned to perfection. Those pigs in blankets were, I think, the best pigs in blankets I have ever tasted.”
She hailed the sprouts as “absolutely incredible”, and mentioned that she had whipped up some mashed potatoes to accompany the meal, purely because her children aren’t fans of roasties.
“There would have absolutely been enough for all of us,” she declared. “So, Iceland, thoroughly impressed. Christmas dinner for £25: done.”
The video certainly struck a chord with viewers. One commented: “This is so good for low income families.”
In response, Rebecca noted: “I think it’s more the ease of grabbing a box and everything is in there.”
Another viewer confessed: “Was so tempted to get this for my solo Christmas dinner (plus leftovers) but wasn’t sure. Watching this, I think it’s perfect! £25 isn’t bad for all of that, either!”
A third chimed in: “Definitely good for people working Xmas day/people with disabilities too!”
However, some felt the meal was lacking certain key components of a traditional Christmas dinner. One viewer pointed out: “No Yorkshire puddings, no cauliflower cheese, no swede/carrots mash????” Rebecca responded to this: “This, to me, is an easy Christmas dinner for families that maybe don’t have a lot of time or the means to get to the shops/cook.”
Someone else had a more tongue-in-cheek reaction, writing: “I was sooo confused on how you went all the way to Iceland to pick up a dinner for four and only realized halfway through you probably didn’t mean the country.”
And another said: “Petition: I’d like to see big Simon eat the whole four person family pack.”
