Ate this set on Niijima island in 2016. What fish was it?
The menu just said "Island Sushi". Restaurant is called Sakae Sushi. Seems there are 3 rows of different fish.

I’m thinking it’s gotta be medai with karashi on top

It seems to be a variation unique to the Izu Islands. They use whatever fish is available on the islands, such as marlin, mahi-mahi, striped jack, amberjack, red snapper, longtail snapper, bluefin snapper, red seabream, tuna, bonito, and flying fish.
NoNormals
Perhaps ‘catch of the day’ as another suggested. Marinated sushi is a bit of a gamble. Although that restaurant had a great ashitaba tempura iirc. Surf there was decent, but cold

It’s marinated so it’s hard to tell. My guess is it’s all different cuts of hamachi/buri. Could potentially also include salmon or Katsuo.
