Picked this up 10 yrs ago with a purpose and the time has finally come.. SPOILER – it’s didn’t disappoint
Tasting notes:
Color is deep gold, edging toward amber but still bright. Fine mousse on the pour, surprisingly persistent for the age.
Nose opens slowly: toasted brioche, roasted nuts, dried apple, lemon curd, and that unmistakable aged Champagne note — warm pastry and chalk. A little honey and mushroom as it warms, but never tired.
Palate is where it really shines. Still has acidity — not sharp, but structural. Flavors of baked apple, citrus oil, almond, and a savory saline edge. Oxidative notes are there, but controlled. Finish is long, nutty, and very clean.
This felt fully mature, not fading. More about texture and depth than freshness, but still balanced. Not flashy — just quietly confident old Champagne doing what it’s supposed to do after nearly 30 years.
If you like aged Blanc de Blancs that lean savory rather than sweet, this is very much in that lane.
