Not sure if it’s because it’s rather cold but when I moved my plate setter into my egg after it was fired up, it did a nice clean crack. Sadly, I don’t have the receipt for it otherwise I’d do a claim. I guess I get to go buy a new one!

Might be able to get a new one without a receipt, but honestly, I’d go with something different as a new one will also break at some point down the road.
Looks like it still works with some tetris move… so I’ll just keep smoking with it..
The other option is to buy an expander, and just slide the plate in place and you are good..
Beware thermal shock. May want to change your process and make sure the new one heats up with your egg.
Has anyone looked into furnace glue? There is a special glue or cement that is safe to use at extremely high temps.
Not helpful to you now but when it is cold out I always bring mine into the house for at least an hour before plopping it into the Egg.
I went to a cast iron plate setter. No regrets; I’m clumsy as hell.
Since its broken, you may consider 2 half moon ceramic disks. Lots easier to work with, and because its 2 half moons you can set up direct and indirect grilling at the same time, if you wish
I got a cast iron one after my ceramic one broke.
Green eggs are way overpriced.. I’ve cracked 2 fireboxes and 2 play setters and it’s a total pain in the ass yo have them replaced..
Take that piece to your county jail sell it an officer who will sell it to an inmate for a shank! You can easily make $1,000!
Everything fails when heat and cold are involved over and over again
Happens to the best of us. I did the same thing 2 years ago for Christmas dinner 🤷♂️
Anytime I am using the heat deflectors, I always put them in right away after lighting. Need to have those slowly heat up versus just putting them in to the hot EGG. I’ve seen way too many of them crack when added into a hot grill. Especially if there is any moisture from meat fats or water in the ceramic.
I broke my original plate setter soon after getting my BGE.
I had a second grill grate (aka cooking grid) at the time, the second one is made of cast iron.
Not proud of it, but here’s what I did — I put the original stainless steel cooking grid on top of the fire ring, laid both pieces of the broken plate setter on top of the cooking grid in the legs up position, and then placed my cast iron grill grate on top of the legs of the broken plate setter.
I ran it that way for over 10 years. It worked just fine. I didn’t replace the broken ceramic plate setter because I had no confidence that the replacement wouldn’t break too.
It took me over 10 years before I discovered that cast iron plate setters were available. Apparently I wasn’t checking regularly. Anyway, I bought one. The iron plate setter gets especially hot and needs a work around when using a drip pan with water. I lay a few flattened disposable lasagna aluminum baking pans on top of the iron plate setter as a buffer and put the drip pan on top of them. It works o.k. I do prefer the cast iron plate setter to the broken ceramic one.
Mine did the same thing but cracked right down the middle. I bought an aftermarket basket rack off of Amazon that supports it.

Its a deflector..it will deflect the heat.. I believe its still usable
Just call them, they’ll sort you out. If not, get the eggspander and pizza half moons, works just as well.
Mine broke similarly once. I got some heavy gauge copper wire and a masonry bit. I drill some holes on either side of the break and “stitched” it together with the wire. It’s held up for like 5 years so far
Same thing happened to mine about 10 years ago. I bought the Eggspander, and it fits on the inner ring fine with 2 legs.
Two hands always to set that in. Sorry.
I’ll put mine in right after lighting the charcoal, and let it get to temp slow. Still good after 2 years, and it’s used year round in the north east. But now I say this it’ll crack soon lol.
Where do you live?
It was probably because it’s been cold and the stone was air temp and the fire was getting hot, and it could not take the heat change.
Same. I still have it, but bought a cast iron version that is a great alternative.
Drill some holes and stich it up with some steel wire, and it’s good to go.
Be sure to get a receipt with your new one 😅 if it’s manual, scan it or make a picture and email it to yourself with all the keywords you would like to use when searching it.
