Hello everyone!
I just got my brand new Classic Joe Series II and I’m itching to start my first cook. However, while assembling the firebox, I couldn’t get the pieces to fit any tighter than this. I expected the ceramic plates to align more closely, but there are some noticeable gaps between them.
Does anyone else’s firebox look like this, or is something potentially wrong?

That’s how it’s supposed to be
That’s perfect.
That’s fine mate, a bit of give for expansion so it’s less likely to crack in the long run. Enjoy your new barby!
Looks just like mine, they don’t have to be tight as fuck how i usually like it, it allows expansion contraction and the are just there for insulation anyway.
The gaps are to account for the thermal expansion of the ceramic when it heats up. If they fit together tighter or were one piece it would be more prone to cracking
That’s exactly how it should look you’re good
Thanks all, that is reassuring, happy grilling!
You’re good to go, just center it up as best you can with the metal ring and fire it up. Try to keep those round holes clear.
This design is superior to the legacy one-piece I got on my classic ten years ago. It cracked, and KJ stood by their product by sending me the new pieces overnight, free.
!? This doesn’t look right to me. Idk why everyone is saying this is fine. (I guess the grill would probably work, and I can’t imagine you’ll damage anything, but those segments should be interlocking! It looks like they’re just leaning against the outer walls of the Kamado. Did you manage to get the metal ring on properly?
