    Actually, I’ve found a thin layer of cream cheese on the inside to be perfect. Makes it a lot more creamy and hightens the contrast between the melted cheese and the crispy bread.

    With time, butter the bread and butter the pan.

  3. Usually, and forgive me, margarine because it’s what’s in the fridge. My grilled cheese making is often impulsive.

    I just used munster, cheddar, and feta on multigrain with hazelnut oil, olive oil(extra virgin), and butter in an iron skillet on medium low. Took 15 minutes. Yum.

    Butter for myself, but I do a catering job once a year that’s soup and sandwiches for 100+ people. For those grilled cheeses we use mayo, makes a more even color on the flattop.

    both, mayo on the inside of the bread, butter on the outside. i like the butter that has some olive oil mixed in

    We save our bacon fat. I made a grilled cheese with it once, and it was amazing!
