HINDMAN, Ky. (WYMT) – In the Boys Championship of the WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic, North Laurel faced Knott Co. Central and won, 54-46.
The Patriots went on a 6-4 run to start the game.
Jordan Rawlings took the lead for North Laurel on two back-to-back three’s giving the Jaguars a 10-6 lead.
Connor Napier followed that up with two threes of his own to give Knott Co. Central a 13-10 lead with 2:35 left in the first quarter.
Cam Anderson immediately answered, tying the game at 13 points.
Napier followed that up with another triple to give KCC a 16-13 lead.
At the end of the first quarter, Knott Co. Central led, 18-15.
In the second quarter, Chance Amburgey got the scoring started for the Patriots, but Reece Davidson answered, making the score 20-17 in favor of Knott Co. Central.
With 3:03 remaining in the first half, Rawlings knocked down a triple, giving North Laurel a 26-24 lead.
Davidson followed that with a layup and a dunk, putting the Jags ahead by six.
Amburgey hit a layup while getting fouled, and knocked down his freethrow to bring the game back within one possession.
At the half, North Laurel led, 30-27.
In the third quarter, the Jaguars were down by three, until Davidson scored a dunk to end the quarter, which put North Laurel within one point of the Patriots.
The Jaguars would continue that momentum into the last frame, going on a 8-0 run to start the quarter.
Despite efforts from Knott Co. Central in the fourth quarter, North Laurel would ultimately keep their lead.
With the win, North Laurel made program history by winning their first Mountain Classic Championship.
The North Laurel Girls Basketball team also won the WYMT Food City Mountain Basketball Classic, making North Laurel the first team to win both the Boys and Girls Classic in the same year.
