I wanted to surprise my wife a new (not used) KF8 for finishing her doctorate and starting work. I bought direct from KitchenAid website. It was to be wrapped and have a note attached, I paid for this service. It arrived today in a normal box, completely ruining the surprise since my wife was the one who saw it on the porch.
We go to open the box and find that it is covered, inside and out, in coffee beans. Everything about this screams to me that this an abnormality. However, this is my first time purchasing something like this and I am hoping I am just ignorant about it.
Is this normal for my new product to be so dirty on arrival, or did they package up a used item and ship it to me?
Unfortunately customer service and support is closed on the weekends. I am hoping that someone here might provide me some insight. Thanks 👍

Not normal. It’s normal to have some bean residue from testing, but not at the level you’re showing. I’m wondering if you didn’t get someone’s return.
Return it. They’re hoping you won’t complain.
Not wrapped, no note and clearly a returned item. Would definitely be making a strong complaint
Did you accidentally buy a refurbished model? If the SKU starts RKES it’s a refurbished. If it’s a refurbished it goes under testing before they send it out and it should be fine.
You paid for a new product. You got a used one. Send it back.
Probably a return that the buyer marked unopened. Clearly they missed it and I’m sure they will replace it. Some high-end machines are tested, but it shouldn’t come dirty with coffee grounds. That’s just nasty.
Is this a genuine question?
Nice, they seasonned it for you
I don’t know why you would buy this for anyone who cared about espresso, anyway. Just use this as an opportunity to return it and try again
It’s clearly been used a returned for whatever reason, so may not be fit for purpose. Happened to me a few years ago, picked the last coffee machine up, turns out someone had put it out the floor by accident when it had just been returned
I bought a completely different grinder but it said it may come with residue from factory testing. Mine looked completely clean, but may be what happened here. They didn’t do a good job of emptying it out.
I’d complain either way if it’s not up to your liking, oftentimes companies will credit you back a portion of the cost to save a round trip return which may be a win win. Machine will only be pristine until you use it once anyways
Small aside from your issue, about the KF8. I can swear the brewing group is the one from the Melitta Barista TS series. Is the KF8 actually manufactured by Melitta?
Might check superautomatic and kitchenaid sub. Good luck!
That’s definitely been used before
Grind finer!
Definitely not new
It’s not from normal operation. It’s from texting but I don’t understand how it gets all over the place unless they have a terrible problem with Static at the texting bench.
Higher quality grinders, they always test them before delivery. I had same with a Rancilio Rocky years ago. Came with plenty ground residue inside, but apparently it’s from the quality control tests before shipping out.
Call Kitchenaid and have them make it right. Totally unacceptable.
Wait until you find out who owns KitchenAid… Chinese owned. But very vague, multiple companies say they own KitchenAid.
You paid for a product and did not receive what you paid for. You should receive a new unit, as requested and also ask for a refund.
You got a used one. Who ever returned it didn’t bother cleaning the thing first.
I’d demand a refund and buy a better brand
US? Report to the FTC, selling used as new is fraud…
this is hilarious.
There’s no way that’s a new item.
Bullshit. Hope you get this resolved
I TOO HAVE BEEN FUCKED BY KITCHEN AID.
Mixer was on sale, bought for sister. Order confirmed but not processed. Followed up and they said it was canceled but they didn’t know why. Told me to reorder. Wasn’t on sale anymore, fought them to get the sales price again. They wouldn’t honor it. Fought with them multiple times. Rep literally tells me I should just order through 3rd party service???? Finally get kitchenaid to sister on layaway bc she deserves it.
IT ARRIVES COVERED IN CAKE BATTER 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
I will never buy a directly from kitchen aid or their other companies (whirlpool, etc) ever again 😤😤😤
“Brand new”
I wouldn’t be very happy with that. It’s ok if they test it, but this seems like its been used quite a bit
Is that a white labelled Melitta machine by any chance?
That brewing unit looks almost identical to the ones in Melitta machines.
This exact thing has happened to me, with a different device. Sadly, there is a rampant scam ongoing, whereby people buy a device, use it for a period of time, then buy a new one, put the old one in the new box, and return it as if they are returning the new one. Nobody at the warehouse checks the box, and they just assume it’s a brand new device. It gets sold to some unsuspecting victim.
I’d be pissed.
Fuckkkkk kitchen aid
“new”… that is a used return
