Tried out Atelier at its new spot over the weekend!

Atelier recently opened up at its new location, and did a “soft opening” with an a la carte menu. I believe it’s transitioning to the full tasting this week, with an a la carte menu remaining at the bar. My wife and I tried it out this past Saturday, and it was a fun (if slightly uneven) meal.

For smaller plates, we had a tomato tart, boiled peanuts, and corn fritters. The tart was probably the high point for me. It was beautifully presented, the tart pastry was lovely and buttery, and the tomatoes tasted super fresh. I also liked the fritters. The pickles they came with were fantastic, and the combined bite of the fritter, jalapeño, and pickle was maybe the tastiest of the meal. The boiled peanuts were a fun snack but maybe a bit too messy to eat.

Our larger plates were a broccoli and Brussels sprouts dish and a ‘pasta’ dish with noodles made from ramps, as well as squash, mushroom, and granola. Unfortunately these were a little less successful. I loved the broccoli bites, but the Brussels sprouts were really bitter, even with the jam they were served with. And while the ramp noodles sounded fun in theory, they were sadly a little bland.

Back to the positives, our desert was great. It was a mousse cake with peaches and cardamom foam. Super tasty! For drinks, we tried a strawberry phosphate soda and a mezcal cocktail, which were both nice.

Overall, it was cool to be able to Atelier at a reasonable price point, even if I didn’t love every dish. I should also shout out the staff, who were super warm and welcoming. I’m definitely interested to see what their tasting menu looks like/what makes the cut from the soft launch.

I’m so much more curious as to how the new spot interacts with the “equity” they were trying to deal in a few months ago.
