Eight major supermarkets in the UK have named the showstopping desserts that they believe customers will be most excited about. Christmas is the season of indulgence, and dessert plays a significant role in that. When it comes to sweet treats over the festive period, Brits enjoy a wide range of things such as mince pies, Christmas puddings and sticky toffee delights. A little while ago, I asked nine major UK supermarkets for three standouts from their 2025 Christmas offerings.
Of the nine I asked, eight came back to me with desserts that they think are among the strongest highlights of their respective festive ranges. Some of the supermarkets have kept it classic with their Christmas desserts this year, offering a good taste of tradition. However, many of them have come up with sweet dishes that have piqued our interest and are sure to have shoppers eager to try them. Here are the best Christmas desserts from Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and five other UK supermarkets.
Tesco
The UK’s largest supermarket, Tesco, has a wide range of Christmas desserts available this year. However, one of their highlights is Tesco Finest Salted Banoffee Cascading Star. Costing £14, this indulgent post-dinner treat is comprised of a golden banana sponge with a salted caramel sauce and popcorn pieces for a nutty crunch.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s chose its Taste the Difference Irish Coffee Tira Merry-Su (£12) as a stand-out in its 2025 range. This dessert is layered with Savoiardi sponge fingers, Irish coffee-soaked sponge, and a sweet mascarpone cream infused with whisky. On top of that, it’s finished with chocolate flakes and cocoa powder.
Asda
Asda’s Christmas dessert highlight is its Gingerbread Man Chocolate Mousse. Priced at £5, this festive gingerbread man-shaped Belgian chocolate mousse is filled with gooey toffee sauce and honeycomb pieces. Asda sees it being a product that shoppers will be intrigued by, and described it as a perfect dessert for families.
Aldi
Aldi, which is officially the UK’s cheapest supermarket, chose its Specially Selected Hazel-Nutcracker as its 2025 Christmas dessert standout. This treat costs £7.99 and comes in the form of a gold-dusted Belgian chocolate shell filled with caramel sauce, digestive biscuit balls, mini marshmallows, and a hazelnut and Belgian milk chocolate ganache.
Waitrose
Many shoppers will be expecting great things from high-end supermarket Waitrose this Christmas, and its dessert range does not disappoint. Its highlight is the No.1 The Nutcracker (£20). It is made of creamy milk and dark chocolate mousse with a rich hazelnut and chocolate praline inside, and a crunchy chocolate feuilletine base with nuts and a hint of sea salt.
Morrisons
Morrisons also has a mouth-watering Christmas sweet treat range for 2025. Its top contender is the Best Signature Collection Belgian Chocolate & Praline Star. This dessert won’t be available until right before Christmas, hitting shop shelves on December 21.
It will cost £15 and is comprised of Belgian chocolate ganache filled with hazelnut praline on rich syrup-soaked chocolate sponge, with a crisp hazelnut praline and wafer base.
Iceland
Your mind probably goes straight to frozen savoury party food when you think of Iceland’s Christmas offering. Indeed, they have plenty of that, but they also have some scrumptious desserts on offer this Christmas.
The supermarket chose its Sticky Toffee Cottage as a stand-out in its whole 2025 festive range. Priced at £8, this dessert is made of date and ginger sponge with caramelised biscuit sauce and a sweet dusting, shaped like a festive cottage out of a fairytale book.
Marks and Spencer
M&S always does a great job with its festive treats. In fact, it had the best mince pies and Christmas puddings in two of our recent taste tests.
But its stand-out dessert in its 2025 Christmas range is the Lemon & Mascarpone Panettone Gateau (£25), made of layered soft panettone with mascarpone cream and lemon curd, topped with white chocolate curls.
