You should test the center next time.

Edit: I was just being a smart ass. This has way too many up votes XD

Microwave it. It won’t look great, but you can microwave it to done.

Been here before. These days I avoid it by just using wide and shallow ceramic baking pans.

  4. Occams_Razorburn

Muffin tins are the way, the smaller batches cook so consistently

  5. Smoking-Posing

Off the cuff it doesn’t past the color test; it has the undercooked complexion

Maybe for a lot of us, a thermometer would be more reliable! In sorry for your loss

  7. MyNameIsSkittles

Use a wooden toothpick next time

Reminds me of my co worker who likes not fully cooked pancakes lol

You can also give it a shake, if it jiggles like jello it’s still raw.

Preheat your oven, reduce oven temp by 25 degrees(if Fahrenheit) when using dark coated pans. Always use a toothpick or something similar when doing a crumb test.

I use an instant read thermometer, never had this happen again

I use a combination of cooking time and looking at the color.

Set your oven timer a couple of minutes short of the recipe cook time.

Check the cornbread when the oven timer goes off. The edges should be starting to get a copper brown color. And the top should look set.

Cornbread isn’t hard. You don’t need to get all technical. Give the pan a little jiggle or lightly touch the center and see if it has some resistance. Based on color alone this was maybe halfway done cooking.

That’s the creamy filling. Aka corn cum.

What about the “eye test”. Did it pass that? Just looking at the picture, if I took this out of my oven I would just put it right back in. Even after you cut it, it should have gone right back in the oven.

This is pretty much the only reason I keep toothpicks in the kitchen.

I’ve never seen anyone use a fork.

  17. pkinetics

If you cant rebake it, throw it in a waffle iron.

always test three spots. Corner, middle of edge, and middle.

The corner and middle of edge tests are to check and see if you need to rotate the pan. The middle tells you if its done or not.

your oven was maybe too hot judging by how set your edges are for how literally liquid the inner batter is.

Never use something really smooth for that test. Use a bamboo/wooden skewer or a wooden toothpick. The roughness will pick up the batter better giving you a more accurate read. I cook for a living.

Maybe poke it two or three times next time. Live and learn.

  21. Palanki96

It seems really pale but the pool of goop is still surprising

  22. My fat ass thought this was some kinda stuffed cornbread lol

  23. Miserable_Ant_9896

No way fork test came back clean

  24. ObviousWillingness51

It doesn’t even look ready, way to pale, tiny edge crust. Ya didnt need a fork test

  25. shield_battery

it’s fork test for potato, TOOTHPICK test for backed goods. u need the rougher, wood texture to allow glop to cling to.

  26. Exotic-Pen-3511

That’s some pale ass corn bread
