Imported, ungraded beef. Wagyu means nothing without a grade and its also grass fed

Wagyu is a crapshoot unless it comes from Japan. American wagyu, and I’m guess this wagyu can range from crap you buy at HEB to really good stuff you get from butchers who source from quality ranchers.

I live in Texas & almost exclusively shop at HEB. I’ve never seen a price that low so your guess is as good as mine.

You can’t get wagyu marbling from grass fed beef.

At the very least, that tag is stacking buzzwords

I am jealous of all the BBQ content creators who are like “Oh, I want to my local Costco/HEB and I got (this cut of meat)”

People really just throw the “wagyu” label around

  7. Correction: yes you guys are right. This is from central market. Im still getting confused with the different variants of HEB stores.

That being said, im still shocked by the price of beef in general here.

NY strips were $10.50/lb where its normally like $16 where i live.

There was a choice Tritip that had wagyu level marbling but they called it choice. I asked the guy if he was sure it was choice grade and assured me it was. Best steak tacos I ever made.

I just smoked a brisket from my deep freezer that was about 17 months old. 4.99lb for market trimmed choice. I think the one I bought to replace it was 6.99lb. I can’t imagine what people outside cattle country are going through.

Oh how I miss .99lb full packer briskets (limit 2)…

The exchange rate with the new zealand dollar is absolutely unreal that’s for sure.
