A new family-run restaurant has opened in Bath this week. Sydney’s, run by married couple and owners of The Scallop Shell Garry and Lisa Rosser, will have an ever-changing menu serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The restaurant, which is named in honour of Lisa’s beloved father, comes ten years after they first opened The Scallop Shell. Not only this, the two businesses are open next door to one another!

Gary says the restaurant came about from a little bit of serendipity: “It’s a bit of a full circle moment for us. In the early days of The Scallop Shell, we used to send people to the pub next door for a drink while they waited for a table.
“When we saw the building was on the market, we knew it would be a great complement to our existing restaurant.”
Patrons will be able to order coffee and breakfast from 8am everyday. Meanwhile, the lunch and dinner menus will change daily with head chef Mike Mills taking charge of the kitchen.
Examples of the dishes on offer include potted Somerset ham with madeira jelly, slow-roasted pork belly with colcannon and salsa verde; roasted portobello mushroom, wild garlic rarebit and goat’s cheese; and seafood favourites such as Cornish hake fillet in a bun, and crisp fried haddock goujons with roasted garlic aioli.

The restaurant also honours a very special person: “Sydney’s is named in a tribute to Lisa’s dad, who passed away suddenly five years ago, As a plumber, he was instrumental in the set-up of The Scallop Shell and loved nothing more than bringing people together.
“Our son-in-law has made a copper pipe sign by the bar in his honour. It’s been a huge amount of work to be able to open the doors, but we’re so pleased with how Sydney’s has been received so far.
“There’s so much passion and experience on our team, we can’t wait for the local community to come and try it for themselves.”
Sydney’s is open seven days a week on Monmouth Place, from 8am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 8am to 5pm on Sunday. The restaurant currently only accepts walk-ins.
