This morning my mom and I saw this grill/hottop in front of the neighbors yard (waiting for trash pickup im asusming) and I jokingly told my mom that when I get home from school for sure that grill would be in our backyard. I come home to find exactly that but seeing it up close this thing is COVERED in rust.
My dad has been wanting a hot top like that for so long, looking at some each time we go to the swapmeet but never actually buying one. I really want to try to fix it up for him since he works so hard and is usually at work during the day but im not sure if the grill is even salvageable from how much rust it has. Any cleaning tips would be greatly appriciated!!

Use a grinder with buffing wheel and it will get back to normal

Nope. Tell me where it is and I’ll dispose of it for you. Free of charge, since I’m a generous fellow and you seem like a nice chap.

(This question has been posted many, many times. Just search ‘salvageable’.)

  3. Look up some videos on how people restore cast iron skillets

You will need to do that, but on a much bigger scale

Is it possible? With enough time and effort for sure

Is it worth the effort? That’s all up to how much you think it’ll be a fun project to spend a while on

  4. Angle grinder and wire wheel. Then maybe a spray down with vinegar and water wash and dry. Then re season and protect by covering and storing dry to prevent more issues.

Throw some butter on it and start cooking.

Start with vinegar and a chore boy scrubber. That will help get rid of a lot of the rust.So you won’t have such a mess and won’t be working. So hard when you sand or wire wheel, the rest of it down. And I personally recommend that you reseason it with one hundred percent grapeseed oil. Make the coats as thin as you can.And then heat it up until it smokes. And let it smoke for about ten minutes. And then another coat and another coat, like four coats. To start.

I also prefer the older style like that. With the front grease trap as opposed to the hole in the middle of the back. Or other brands that have a hole somewhere in the surface.

Take it to a vocational school that has a auto body or welding class and get them to sand blast it. Give the student $20.

You’d be surprised that worse that was brought back. Just Google on how to do it and season it well after.

Make sure the burners are in good shape!

Looks like every other Blackstone grill I’ve seen in a backyard

My kinda project. Steel wool, paint, grinder, and elbow grease. Will look good as new.

Honestly, you can just get something like a 120-200 grit sander and go to town. Wipe and wash afterwards then season.

That griddle is definitely salvageable. It’ll take some effort though.

  15. Looks like surface level corrosion with no pitting. Yeah it’s fixable.

I have salvaged and still use cast iron skillets and cast iron Dutch ovens in that condition. Takes some work and re-seasoning but should be worth it if no deep pits and burners function. As others have said, fire it up first and go from there.

Plug the back and pour you a couple gallons of vinegar on it let it set a day or two dran it scrub it rinse it off get it hot and seasoned the hell out of it

Just spray cooking spray on the legs and wipe clean. It’ll darken it up for a while

YouTube it. Lots of videos on how to clean and reseason flat top grills.

Just return it to Costco and tell them you need a new one because something is wrong with this one
