Got a Searwood XL about a week ago. I’ve used it six times and have had temperature issues with it every time. The first time I tried to use it it got to about 250 degrees and wouldn’t get any hotter for about 20 mins. I shut it down and found the burn pot filled to the brim with pellets.

Every other time I’ve used it, the temps will climb to a certain point, stall, drop 50+ degrees, start to climb again, drop again, etc.

I thought it was an issue with the pellets, so I dumped the Kirkland pellets out, cleaned all the ash and used Smokey Woods pellets. Same issue. The picture is from my attempt today. I never opened the lid, it just did those temp drops all on its own.

I am waiting on a call back from Weber’s Searwood team but am hoping to get some ideas on what the issue could be. Pellets? Auger?

Not to be too dramatic but this is my first pellet smoker and am ready to throw in the towel and go back to propane!

It’s not a pellet issue. They need to give you a new pellet grill. See if you can return it and get a new one. Trust me when I say a pellet grill is the easiest thing you could ever cook on. Unfortunately things happen and duds do exist.

It sounds like the pellets aren’t feeding correctly. I have the XL and the only time I’ve had weird temperature fluctuations was when I ran out of pellets and then added some to the hopper. Other than that it’s been rock solid so I hope they sort yours out.
